Summary

Yet anotherMinecraft: Bedrock Editionupdate is now available, introducing the much-requested ability to pause the game. This feature has long been available in the Java Edition ofMinecraft.

TheBedrock Edition ofMinecraftwas originally launched in September 2017. Since its inception, this version has treated all world instances similarly to multiplayer servers, where the game was always running, even while the player was perusing menus.

Following countless fan requests, Mojang has at last introduced the ability to pause the Bedrock Edition of the game. The feature debuted as part ofMinecraft’s Spring to Life update, which rolled out on Tuesday, March 25. As expected, pausing will only work in a local world owned by the player. If someone joins such a world whileMinecraftis paused, the game will automatically unpause. This won’t happen quietly, as any act of unpausing will be accompanied by a prominently featured notification. The message will even include a convenient prompt that allows the player to get back into the game with a single click or button press, which Mojang expects will be useful for anyone who finds themselves deep inside a menu just as someone else joins their world.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition’s Pause Feature Is Rolling Out in Stages

While the Spring to Life update has already been available for over 24 hours as of this writing, the pause function still hasn’t made its way to everyone. Instead, Mojang is currently in the process of rolling it out toMinecraftplayersgradually in order to ensure stability. The developer expects that this staggered release will take exactly two weeks, meaning the pause feature should be available globally on April 9. Mojang did not provide any more details on the matter, so it’s unclear which player groups are being prioritized during the rollout.

The pause feature won’t work inMinecraftRealms, even if the player is alone in their world instance. This addition is far from the only novelty that debuted as part of the Spring to Life update, which also introduces new ambient sounds for the Badlands and Desert biomes, as well as Wildflowers—a new type of flower that can spawn in Meadows, Birch Forests, and Old Growth Birch Forests.

Two new types of grass are also part of the package, together with the Cactus Flower, Firefly Bush, and a pair of decorative blocks called Bush and Leaf Litter. Moreover, chickens, cows, and pigs have each received two new variants as part of the Spring to Life update. The patch also overhauls Spawn Egg visuals and expands Cartographers' inventories, in addition to introducing half a dozen new wolf audio variants, among other novelties.

New Ambient Sounds for Desert and Badlands

Ambient sounds do not come from the biome settings but are generated by blocks found in the biome, building on the system that we introduced with the Garden Awakens drop.
