Soulslikes have long been touted as being some of thehardest challenges gaming has to offer. But anyone who has played aMonster Huntertitle will agree that taking down the fearsome monsters in these games is no cakewalk either;Monster Hunter Wildsis no exception.

Fainting is a natural part of the gameplay loop ofMH Wilds, but unlike a lot of other games, it isn’t the end of the road. A hunt can still be concluded successfully after a player faints, though it does become harder to complete. Here is how it works.

being carted off after fainting in monster hunter wilds

What Happens When You Faint in Monster Hunter Wilds

After a hunter’s health bar reaches zero, they faint and are carted off to safety by a trio of Palicos. All of their health is restored, and they are given new supplies (accessible while riding the Seikret) to aid them when returning to the hunt. Unlike other games, the monster being hunted will not recover its health, but there are other downsides to account for.

The penalties for a player fainting inMH Wildsare reduced reward money, having to run back to the fight, and, in dire cases, quest failure.

Less Reward Money

A portion of the reward money for completing the hunt quest is subtracted from the final reward pool. The amount of money that is deducted depends on the number of times a hunter is allowed to faint in a fight before the hunt ends in failure. The failure conditions for each hunt quest are listed in the details menu.

For most quests, fainting three times is the limit before the hunt fails. In these quests,one-third of the money is subtractedfrom the reward pool every time you faint. So if you were going to get 1000 Zenny for the hunt but you fainted one time, you would get 667 Zenny instead.

In other quests, the fainting limit before the quest fails may be up to 5 times. In these quests,one-fifth of the money is subtractedevery time your health bar reaches zero. So, if you were going to get 1000 Zenny and die once, you would get 800 Zenny instead.

Running Back to the Fight

Whenever a player faints, they are carted off to the nearest campsite. Monsters are spread out across the map, and very few of them can be found close to a camp. This meansrunning back and forth can take a significant amount of time. Since the timer to quest failure keeps ticking down, this can be a big hindrance.

Setting up pop-up campsnear difficult monster fights can help reduce travel time.
