There are only two monsters players can kill to get enough materials for Water-based weapons. Their first opportunity will come with Uth Duna and then they can craft the Uth Khviluk 1, which is a Bow-type weapon. To continue with the Bow trees, players can also get the Nihil Bow 1 by defeating a Xu Wu. Every weapon has a skill tree that makes these weapons stronger with every upgrade. If players want more Water options, they will have to wait until thepost-game to start crafting Artian weapons inMonster Hunter Wilds.
Splash some water on Ajarakan, Gravios, Guardian Ebony Odogaron, Nu Udra, Quematrice, and Rompopolo as they will potentially go down quicker inMonster Hunter Wilds. The Guardian Fulgur Anjanath, Rey Dau, and Yian Kut-Ku monsters are also weak to Water-based attacks, but the other examples are mainly weak to Water attacks so let’s get down to how players can face these monsters.
6Ajarakan
A Monkey Begging To Be Washed
Ajarakan is a new monster in the game that pops up once the fire season starts in the Oilwell Basin. It’s the most aggressive monkey-type in the game next to Blangonga and Congalala who are a lot simpler to deal with. Ajarakan is fast, can beat players to a pulp, and has a high health meter especially in the latter half ofMonster Hunter Wildswhen the high-rankedpredators come out.
Ajarakan is weak to the Ice and Water elements which makes sense since this ape has fiery tendencies. While Ice can do some damage, Water is the element players should focus on. If they aim their weapon at the head, the two front legs, the back, or the tail tip then they can get better damage off the Ajarakan.
5Gravios
Big Boy Wants To Tumble
Gravios is one of the oldest dragons in theseries as it premiered in the firstMonster Hunter. While it may look intimidating due to its size, this dragon is a pushover, almost literally because it pushes itself over. One of its attacks is a roll and a slow one at that which is easy to dodge along with most fire breaths.
Now, it’s listed to have three weaknesses between the Dragon, Ice, and Water elements but Ice really doesn’t do anything. Instead, players can score critical hits on the head, neck, belly, and tail if they use Dragon weapons. With Water weapons, they can do extra damage on every part of the body except the head, making Water the clear winner here.
4Guardian Ebony Odogaron

Guardian Ebony Odogaron’s only listed weakness is Water. However, nearly every weapon type and element can hurt this thing badly, so it really doesn’t matter what players choose. That said, players can do the most damage with Water-based weapons against the head, but again, it will get a damage boost against every body part too.
Its only advantage is its speed which can make it hard to target the head and it should be noted that this monster sticks to Dragon attacks despite it looking more like a scaly wolf than a dragon. For those interested in the history of the franchise,Odogaron is fromMonster Hunter: World. Guardians are new iterations of monsters based on classics and Anjanath, another monster fromMonster Hunter: World, joins Odogaron for a Guardian twist on the familiar.
3Nu Udra
Douse This Octopus’ Flames
Nu Udra is one of thestrongest monsters inMonster Hunter Wildsand Water attacks won’t help much to douse this fiery octopus. The only place that is weak to Water attacks is its mouth. When it opens up, players should run away though as they only have seconds. While it is nice to have an advantage through a Water-type weapon, it’s not completely necessary either.
Players should worry more about placing themselves at a distance from Nu Udra. Its tentacles have a massive reach and when it sets itself on fire, look out. Like Ajarakan, Nu Udra awaits in the hottest pits of the Oilwell Basin. To beat it, using Water Ammo for the Heavy Bowgun is one example although a Bow will make players more maneuverable.
2Quematrice
A Chicken That Fries Itself
Quematrice is the second monster players will face inMonster Hunter Wildswho has a weakness only to Water. On the first encounter, it’s impossible to exploit this weakness because players need to first meet Uth Duna to get a good Water-based weapon. No matter though because Quematrice, like Chatacabra who is the first monster players will fight in the game, is easy even without the aid of Water-based weaponry.
Once players do get a Water-based weapon, they can get extra damage if they target the head or tail. Aiming for the tail will be easier since there is more surface area to aim for. However, this is also where Quematrice sprouts its fiery blasts so be careful while targeting its rump.
1Rompopolo
Mix Out The Poison With Water
Rompopolo is a poison bipedal mosquito-looking beast that loves to hide in oil andpoison enemies up close or from afar inMonster Hunter Wilds. Players may think this beast would naturally be weak to Fire since that would make sense to light up oil around it and take advantage of the environment in the game. Instead, Water is its only weakness, so soaking this poisonous bug with waterfalls of arrows, slices from liquid blades, or splashes from blunt objects.
Specifically, players should target the head, back, or tail to get the most damage out of Rompopolo and send it packing. Based on the intro cinematic that makes it look like a Helghast soldier from Killzone, players may find the initial fight challenging. After testing it a few times, Rompopolo becomes a cinch no matter if players use Water-based weaponry or not.
