One Piece’s Time Slot Has Changed

One Piece is Now a Late Night Broadcast

Typically, anime is viewed as something more geared towards children, due to people associating animated media with kids. However, as many people know, that is not necessarily true. While some animes are geared towards children, many aren’t, and have more mature content. Some series fall somewhere in the middle, likeOne Piece. One Piece is a shonen, so it is, in theory, geared towards younger boys. One Piecedoes feature pretty mature themes often, however.

For a long time,One Piece’sanime was broadcast in the morning in Japan. However, this is changing. Fuji TV, the Japanese channel that airs One Piece, has decided to change when it is scheduled for airing. Previously, it used to air at 9:30 AM Sunday Japanese Standard Time. Now, it’s moving to 11:15 PM Japanese Standard Time, on Sunday. This is quite a drastic change.

Late-night scheduling is typically for more mature shows, as most children are asleep by that time, and adults are watching TV.

One Piece’s Egghead arc, which will be airing soon, is not necessarily much darker than what was seen before in the series. One Piecehas had just as grim plot points, if not grimmer way before. But it’s clear Fuji TV is trying to cater more to adults, and it’s very possible that Toei will abstain from censoring more obscene things from the anime that happened in the manga.

Previously, Toei had censored a few things in theOne Pieceanime, such as suicide attempts, profanity, and even blood and gore to a certain extent. A later broadcast could mean an even more accurate adaptation of the manga.

With the time changing in Japan, this will affectOne Piecefans all over the world. For example, the US time for the new anime episode releases will be on Sunday, either 6:15 or 9:15 AM, depending on the state. Some countries will even get the anime episode on Monday now, such as Australia or New Zealand.
