Summary
A recent gameplay clip forMortal Kombat 1’supcoming Kombat Pack 2 shows off a witty interaction between T-1000 and Peacemaker. The cybernetic assassin from the iconic 1991 sci-fi movieTerminator 2: Judgment Dayis officially joining theMortal Kombat 1roster in the coming days, and pitting the T-1000 against John Cena’s Peacemaker yields a clever fourth-wall-breaking reference from the latter character.
Mortal Kombat 1fans have long been waiting for the addition of the T-1000 to the popular fighting game. The first signs of the Terminator character’s arrival inMortal Kombat 1emerged around the game’s launch in September 2023, with dataminers uncovering a portion of an in-game conversation referencing T-1000. Not long after, aMortal Kombat 1voice actor hinted at the T-1000’s inclusionin the game as well. The rumors and speculation were finally validated last year with the launch of theKhaos Reignsexpansion forMortal Kombat 1, which will bring the T-1000 into the fold with the forthcoming Kombat Pack 2.
Developer NetherRealm Studios has sinceteased the T-1000’s fatalities, fighting style, moves, etc. via gameplay clips, but one non-violent aspect of the character is gaining traction online. A recentMortal Kombat 1gameplay teaser published by Comicbook.com features the T-1000 and Peacemaker exchanging a few lines in a pre-fight intro. The liquid metal-based cyborg assassin asks Peacemaker why he’s staring so intently, to which the John Cena character replies, “Because, f*ck, man, you look just like my dad!” While some may likely overlook the line as a throwaway joke, it’s actually a layered reference to actor Robert Patrick himself.
Robert Patrick Was Both the T-1000 and Peacemaker’s Dad
Patrick played both the T-1000 inTerminator 2: Judgement Dayand Peacemaker’s father, August “Auggie” Smith, in the 2022 HBO seriesPeacemaker. Unlike Arnold Schwarzenegger, who did not return to voice the T-800 inMortal Kombat 11,Robert Patrick has fully reprised his role for the T-1000 inMortal Kombat 1, which means Peacemaker technically breached the fourth wall with his pre-fight intro line. TheT-1000 will be playable inMortal Kombat 1starting March 18 forKhaos Reignsowners with early access privileges, whereas the wide release is slated for March 25.
Alongside Madam Bo, the T-1000 will mark the final character addition forMortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns. As for what lies beyond this DLC, though, things are a bit uncertain. While the game’s co-creator, Ed Boon, has teased more expansions, some insiders claim that NetherRealm has putfutureMortal Kombat 1DLCs on icefollowingKhaos Reigns' allegedly lukewarm commercial performance.
