The genuinely vile individuals who make up the villains ofSquid Gamestand out and are easily hated. A hero’s triumph is only as significant as the villain they defeat. Here are some of the evilest characters inSquid Game, ranked.
7Jang Deok-Su
A Ruthless Bully Who Tries To Run The Show
Jang Deok-Su is one of the main antagonists ofSquid Gameseason one, and from the instance he opens his mouth, it’s clear that he has no priority other than his own selfish desires. Quickly taking advantage of the weak-willed among the players with his aggressive bravado, Jang Deok-Su grows more and more violent as the series goes on.
He uses players as human shields, inflicts violence against those in his way, and even sabotages players who are doing better than him. Jang Deok-Su seems to hold no remorse or pity for the citizens of the games, not even the ones whose deaths he caused personally. His ending was a justly deserved outcome, as he was a ruthless cutthroat who did not deserve to win.
6Byeong-Gi
A Cold And Monstrous Doctor Death
Byeong-Gistarted off as a player, another unsuspecting draftee with mountains of debt and no options. However, unlike the other players, Byeong-Gi presented a unique resource that did not go unnoticed among one of the Pink Guards in the game. Being a doctor, Byeong-Gi has a special skillset that came in handy, and behind the curtains of the game, he was put to work as an organ harvester. The countless players who were fatally wounded but still clung to life would find their way to his operating table and be chopped to pieces and their parts sold.
5Thanos
The Pure Definition Of Narcissism
Thanos wasa breakout character in the second season ofSquid Gamewho brought a special type of chaos to the games as a player. Thanos was an egomaniac with a lot of charisma. This and his fame as a rapper made it easy for him to manipulate players who knew of his reputation. Gathering a small crew of players to do his bidding, he used people like tools to progress in the game and then threw them away at his leisure. Thanos showed not an ounce of empathy for those who died right in front of him and only had his eyes fixed on the money that hung from the ceiling.
4Nam-Gyu
A Vicious Henchman
Nam-Gyu also appears in the second season ofSquid Gameand fixes himself as Thanos’s number two. Attaching himself to the hip of power, Nam-Gyu was a detestable yes-man who springboarded anything Thanos had to say and did everything he could to get in his good graces. However, Nam-Gyu was a much more violent individual who quickly crossed the line to assaulting other players and even threatening murder. Nam-Gyu showed his true colors as a violent altercation erupted in the men’s bathroom andresulted in several deaths.
3The Benefactors
Unfeeling Sadists Who Love To Play God
Among the many individuals who come into the game as players with negative personality traits such as selfishness, lack of empathy, and pure narcissism, they pale in comparison to the individuals who are in control of the game.
The benefactors, or VIPs in Squid Game, are the money behind the games, seeking thrills and adrenaline from watching the endless deaths that come with the games players are forced to compete in. They sit atop their ivory tower and look down on the people they believe to be vermin and drink fancy alcohol as countless die trying to earn a fraction of their wealth.
2The Recruiter
A Sadistic And Soulless Scouter
The Recruiter is the first subordinate of the Frontman that viewers see, and he kicks off the entire series when he lures Seong Gi-Hun into the first game. While in the first season he appears as an enigmatic red-herring who simply finds people who are down on their luck and gives them an opportunity.
However, in the second season, it’s revealed that the Recruiter is fully aware of the fate that awaits the people he brings into the game and that he takes pleasure in knowing that the vast majority of people he meets will die. The Recruiter is genuinely one of the mostirredeemable charactersin Squid Game, as shown in his one-on-one interaction with Seong Gi-Hun.
1The Frontman
The Cold Controller Of The Games
The Frontman is the faceless specter that oversees the games. He appears sparingly and explains the rules and then disappears into the ether to accommodate the VIPs. Behind the mask is a truly sinister man who, in the second season of Squid Game, lures Seong Gi-Hun back to the games and joins him as a player to watch his suffering up close. The Frontman is portrayed as taking joy from the death and despair that occur during the games and personally enjoys watching Seong Gi-un try his best to save lives, even as he leadsa rebellion against the games.
