Stranger ThingsSeason 5 is one of Netflix’s most anticipated shows and, thankfully, the wait won’t be too much longer for fans as the beloved sci-fi series will be returning to make its final outing this year. The fifth installment looks set to be the show’s most emotional and tragic season yet. Recently, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos has been ramping up the excitement as he teased fans about season 5’s “thrill ride” and that they might want to think about grabbing some tissues before watching the season finale.
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the fantasy series became one of Netflix’s most popular shows, with its fourth season the most-watched English TV series in the first four weeks of its release. Netflix announced that production wrapped onStranger Thingsseason 5 in late December 2024, and although there isn’t an exact release date for its final season just yet,the Duffer brothers revealed that they are ahead of schedule. Now, nine years after it welcomed viewers into its horror-infested universe in 2016, fans are heartbroken to learn that one of the show’s most iconic buildings is sadly no more.
Stranger Things Fans Wave Goodbye to Hawkins High School
If it wasn’t upsetting enough for fans to have to say goodbye to theStranger Thingsshow once Season 5 ends, it seems as though one iconic building’s demolition has really ripped their hearts out. Even though the Netflix series takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in reality, it was filmed at Patrick Henry High School in Georgia. Now,the beloved school that served as awell-known location throughout the showhas been torn down to make way for a new buildingand, obviously, this news hasn’t gone down too well with hard-coreStranger Thingsfans.
Over on Reddit, a video showcasing the building being demolished was posted by user uth90, although the original clip comes fromStranger Thingsconnoisseur@thehawkinsreporter’s Instagram account. Construction was set to begin in late 2024 and, as of this week, it has been confirmed that the last of the Hawkins High set has finally been torn down. As seen in the short clip, the Hawkins High mural and its “Home of the Tigers” slogan are sadly a thing of the past, even though attempts had been made by the city to save a piece of theStranger ThingsHigh School set before it was lost to demolition. Thankfully, it seems as though shots of the high school were completed before the set was broken apart, so at least fans will get to see the iconic building in Season 5. However, that realization still doesn’t lift some fans' spirits.
“My childhood’s getting demolished,” exclaimed one unhappy fan, while another commented, “What I would give for one of those bricks from the flag!.” One fan pointed out that, since the series has been on hiatus for so long, they may as well add “adulthood” as well as childhood to the list too.Stranger Thingscast members, which include Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike, and Sadie Sink as Max, have previouslyexpressed their struggles withStranger Thingscoming to an endand how emotionally challenging it has been for them, so it seems like the show’s finale really has become a huge boiling pot of trauma and sadness for fans and its cast members.
