The Witcher Season 5 Has Commenced Filming in Cape Town, South Africa
As reported byThe Witcherfan site,Redanian Intelligence, filming for the show’s fifth and final season has officially started in Cape Town, South Africa.Although Netflix’sThe Witcherseries has usually stayed around its London studios, as well as England’s Lake District, Coldharbour Wood in Chichester, Bourne Wood in Farnham, and Deepcut in Surrey, it seems as though season 5 is changing its location. This is an interesting setting as the show’s creators are using the town and sets that were built for a spin-off calledThe Rats: A Witcher’s Talewith Freya Allan’s Ciri.
The Witcherhasn’t had the best of luck when producing spinoffs, although the 2021 filmThe Nightmare of the Wolfwas a success among fans, asThe Ratsseemingly got canceled due to Netflix reportedly not being happy with the direction it was heading. The limited series' story was about teenage thieves whom Ciri meets at the end of season 3 and who plan a heist against the most dangerous crime ring in the kingdom. Sadly, it wasn’t to be, and production on the series closed down in 2023, but it seems like the set used forThe Ratsmight now be used forThe Witcherseason 5, although this hasn’t been confirmed.
For fans who weren’t happy with how the story went inThe Witcherseason 3 and felt it swayed away from the bookstoo much, producer Tomek Baginski previously reassured fans thatThe Witcherseason 4 would be more “lore accurate.” Currently, no release date for season 4 has been announced as yet. In the meantime, fans can rewatch all seasons ofThe Witcheron Netflix to catch up before the next season arrives.
