Summary

A new feature on PlayStation is meant to crack down further on potentially offensive content with a filter on messages sent through the mobile app, giving users a chance to review their content before sending it. The feature is just one of many ways Sony has attempted to streamline the content moderation systems onPlayStationconsoles in recent years, as the PlayStation App continues to grow and evolve over time.

PlayStation is one of the biggest names in the gaming industry, withthe PS5 and PS5 Pro showing immense sales numbersand outselling the likes of its main competitor, the Xbox Series X/S, likely due to its high number of exclusive titles. That being said, this continued success comes with a huge number of players and a high degree of challenge when it comes to moderating content sent and distributed on the platform’s PlayStation App, which has led the company to crack down further on potentially harmful material.

According to a report fromComicBook.com, Sony is seemingly experimenting with a brand-new feature on the PlayStation App known as “Nudge” that will automatically moderate messages that contain potentially offensive material and give users a chance to edit their posts before sending them out to friends and other players. Currently, this feature is only available to a seemingly random assortment of users as Sony experiments with it, with an official rollout potentially in the works down the line as the company nails down its functionality.

PlayStation’s New “Nudge” Feature May Ask Players to Approve Potentially Offensive Messages

Users will still have the option to send their messages as-is, even if they are flagged by the new feature. When they do, they will be subject to the usual content moderation systems only if the user receiving the content decides to report it. This is not the first time Sony has cracked down on harmful material within PlayStation’s social features either, as many players were also asked to consent tohaving their PS5 voice chats recordedfor moderation purposes when the console was first released.

Sony’s attempts to change how users interact with content on its platforms do not stop at message moderation, either, as the company has also made efforts to improve the ways players leave feedback on some of its games. Previously, it experimented with a feature that would allow users to post fullwritten reviews for games on the PlayStation Store, similar to how Steam reviews work, though the feature has yet to see a full launch.

In any case, the PlayStation platform seems poised to continue to evolve as Sony prepares for a slew of high-profile releases in the coming months and years that may help bring in more new players to its hardware. With Naughty Dog’s new IPIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophecyon its way alongside several,faster-approaching releases likeGhost of Yoteicoming soon, the PS5 seems likely to enjoy a healthy user base for the foreseeable future.
