However, the most common theory among fans of the franchise regarding this island has to do withLoki and his greater role within the story. Ever since his first appearance in this arc, Loki’s backstory and situation have largely been surrounded in mystery, but in Chapter 1143 of theOne Piecemanga, the biggest detail regarding his entire storyline was revealed, so let’s take a look at what this was and how it confirmed a massive fan theory.
Story Arc

Ever since the start of the Elbaf arc, Oda has made it a point to repeatedly tell fans of the series that Loki is a villain whose malicious and evil nature is second to none. He had gotten to such a stage of notoriety even before he was born, since there had been a prophecy that stated that the King would have a son who would lead to the fall and ruin of the country of Elbafas well as its Royal Family.
So, once he was born, it’s safe to assume that Loki had always been treated with much fear and disdain since everyone knew what he would eventually be capable of, a theory which was supported due to the untimely deaths of his mother and the Royal Steed shortly after his birth. At the start of the arc, Loki is revealed to be a mischievous prankster who was despised by everyone in Elbaf, and Chapter 1143 even showed him as a brash and arrogant youth who would bully his older brother Hajrudin mercilessly.
However, the end of this chapter was the one that confirmed the greatest fan theory regarding this character and the Elbaf arc in general. In the closing moments, which saw him getting treated for the grievous wounds he receivedfrom Shamrock’s Cerberus sword, Loki finally stated the one thing that many fans stated would be the case with him; that he isn’t truly evil and that Harald’s death was a cover-up that was put on him.
Loki, for a currently unknown reason, took the blame for King Harald’s death and has been sitting on this truth for the past 6 years, the entire time knowing that no one would believe him. He made this comment after Hajrudin refused the pleas of Luffy and the others and almost cut Loki’s head off, yelling that he deserves justice for what he did to their father. Here, Loki expresses disappointment in his half-brother, stating that he didn’t think that Hajrudin was like the rest of the Giants in believing that he actually killed their father.
Don’t tell me you’re really like the rest, thinking I actually killed our father in cold blood. You don’t really buy it, do you?
Although many fans expected this to be the case, the reveal was still huge. But this does raise the question: what could the truth behind Harald’s death be? Another incredibly popular theory that ties into this one states that Harald, despite being known asthe greatest and most benevolent rulerthat Elbaf has ever had, was actually in cahoots with the World Government and only really promoted peace in the region and the abandonment of Elbaf’s war-like culture in order to weaken the country for a hostile takeover.
While this theory does show why Loki would have rebelled against his father, it doesn’t explain Harald’s death, since Loki outright stated in Chapter 1143 that he wasn’t the one to kill him. The details of all of this remain unclear, and fans only currently know that there is a huge mystery surrounding Harald himself and the truth behind what happened could be one of the most important reveals about the entire Elbaf arc.

Although the theory about Harald secretly being a traitor or being forced to sell out the island makes sense with the evidence behind it, it’s most likely untrue since Loki outright stated that he didn’t kill him. Due to this, the most likely outcome was that it wasthe Gods' Knights who did sosince they also seem to have a portal directly connected to Aurust Castle, where they could have come in to assassinate him.
In the rush to stop them, Loki would have run to the castle to see all the Royal Guards dead at the hands of the Gods' Knights and Harald lying in a pool of his own blood. As he went to his father, he was likely discovered by the other residents of Elbaf, making it seem as if he were the one to commit the act. Knowing that his word would never be believed, Loki accepted his fate and his role as the Accursed Prince.
