Summary

One Piecefans have always loved seeing powerful characters being thrown into the thick of battle by the author, Eiichiro Oda. Among the mightiest characters in the story, there are some who stand out a lot more than the others and when it comes to the Marines, a powerful faction of the world, Sakazuki, also known as Akainu, is one of them.

Fans know Akainu to be an absolute monster in combat and this is clear from the position that he holds within the Navy, and at the same time, from the display he gave to the readers inOne Piece’sParamount War arc. Many consider Akainu to be a top-tier fighter, and while that is indeed true, he isn’t the strongest by any means. Oda has already revealed characters stronger than Akainu in One Piece.

Why Akainu Is One Of The Mightiest In One Piece

Fleet Admiral Akainu is quite easily one of the strongestOne Piececharacters. Fans got a good showing of his strength in the pre-timeskip of the story when he fought against none other than the Whitebeard Pirates in Marineford. During this battle, Akainu was dominant, until he faced off against Whitebeard. Although he lost a battle against an old and dying Whitebeard,Akainu was still quite impressive.

Go light up some birthday candles, magma brat! — Whitebeard to Akainu

Akainu is known to possess the powers of the Magu Magu no Mi, a terrific Logia-type ability that allows him to create and turn into magma itself. This Devil Fruit is said to have the offensive output of the highest order and is comparable even to the mightiest Devil Fruits in the world. Akainu is also known to hold decent Haki. In the battle against Kuzan, he was able to withstand 10 days of fighting and come out as the winner.

All this was accomplished by Akainu before or during the timeskip. Now, he’s stronger than ever before as he is the Fleet Admiral, and fans know that he even has a lofty bounty placed on his head. The Cross Guild has put a five Crown Bounty on Akainu’s head, making him extremely wanted.

Oda Reveals A Character Even Stronger Than Akainu

Kaido Is Even Stronger Than Akainu According To Oda

Akainu is strong and there is no denying that. However, he isn’t the strongest in One Piece and that is a fact. Oda himself doesn’t believe Akainu to be the strongest. It is easy for the fans to see that there exists a power gap between Akainu and some other mighty fighters inOne Piece, but eye test isn’t enough, so Oda has also addressed that issue in other ways. Here’s how Oda compares Akainu to Kaido:

Odacchi!! In the SBS from volume 82, you told us how to escape from Akainu, bears, ghosts, and the like. But when I attempt to do this before my angered mother I’m just beaten up… Is my mother stronger than Akainu? P.N. Star Fairy

0: You better watch out! You’re being too brash! A mother is the strongest living being in the world, even stronger than Kaido!! Don’t you dare do it again! But, you know, your mother loves you more than anyone else.

Clearly, according to Oda himself, Kaido is the mightiest in the world, andthe only thing stronger than Kaidowould be a mother, or in other words, the rage of a mother and the love of a mother. Oda comparing that to Kaido as the benchmark in itself is proof of the fact that Oda believes Kaido is even higher in terms of power.

How Many Final Saga Characters Are Stronger Than Akainu?

Akainu Has Been Surpassed By Many

While Akainu is strong, there are many others in theOne Pieceworld who are known to possess even greater strength. Akainu is already confirmedto be weaker than Kaido, and fans know that there exist other beasts in theOne Pieceworld as well.

I don’t care if it’s a Yonko or an Admiral. If I don’t beat them all I’ll never be the King of the Pirates! — Luffy

The likes of Shanks and Dragon are most certainly above Akainu, as are Blackbeard, and even Luffy. Fans also know that there exist the Five Elders, and of course, even Shamrock, if he’s anywhere near as good as Shanks.

Then, there are also the legends of theOne Pieceworld, such as Garp, who, despite being old, dominated Kuzan in combat on the Pirate Island, who himself is close to Akainu in terms of power.
