Summary

In the world ofOne Piece, Devil Fruits can gift people with all kinds of weird and wacky abilities, but one particular type of fruit that provides the user with a tremendous amount of power and an entirely new form is the Zoans. These Devil Fruits allow the person who consumes them to turn into a monster, though whether this takes the form of a ferocious animal, an ancient dinosaur, or even a godly deity depends on the fruit. Needless to say, there have been plenty of unique Zoan forms over the course ofOne Piece’s story, resulting in some downright jaw-dropping designs.

Author Eiichiro Oda is no stranger to conjuring up eye-catching character designs that feed into the vibrant and joy-filled aesthetic ofOne Piece, but with the Zoans, he’s really been able to stretch his creative muscles as far as they can go. With such a staggering number of Zoans now in the series, both from natural and artificial Devil Fruits, it seems like a good time to see how they rank from a purely visual perspective.

8Sengoku - Golden Buddha

Sengoku Assumes A Large And Flashy Form When Pushed To His Limit In Battle

When the previous Fleet Admiral, Sengoku, unleashed his Zoan form during theMarineford War, all anybody could do was watch in shock as he obliterated the battlefield with his giant golden fists. While Sengoku still retains his signature afro and spectacles, his body grows to enormous proportions, with his new design putting on full display why Sengoku is considered such a powerhouse among the Marines.

Of course, it’s hard to talk about this Zoan form without also mentioning the golden sheen covering Sengoku’s entire body, feeding into the mystical aura that goes along with the Buddha-inspired design. Though this form has only shown up once in the series and isn’t quite as detailed as some other Zoan appearances, it’s still a memorable transformation and one that is unique for referencing a human rather than an animal.

7Tamago - Viscount Hyoko

Only Oda Could Make A Chicken With A Suit And Tie Look This Badass

Tamago might just have one of theweirdest Devil Fruits in the entire series. Upon laying an egg, the Big Mom crew member waits a little while until it hatches, and when it cracks, he assumes this snazzy chicken form, which, while ridiculous as an idea, ends up looking surprisingly cool. There’s a really nice use of color contrasting here, with the bright yellow, red, and white all coming together to create a captivating design that’s easy to gawk at.

The scar covering Tamago’s left eye is a neat little extra addition that reminds fans that this is a Devil Fruit user who has seen his fair share of battles and isn’t afraid to take some bumps if it means protecting his family. The top red hat turning into a teapot is also a clever way to represent Tamago’s elegance while in his Zoan form. Having Tamago keep the cracked egg as his bottoms is a hilarious final touch, alongside the absurdly long spiky mustache, which only someone as fashionable as him could pull off.

6X Drake - Allosaurus

An Ancient Dinosaur Dressed For The Occasion

While there are quite a few occasions in the story where Drake assumes his hybrid Zoan form, when he does decide to give his all, he transforms into a menacing allosaurus whose fashion sense is simply too good to be called a dinosaur. Drake’s allosaurus dons a sleek dark blue jacket fitted with a fur collar, and when paired with the pirate hat, it ensures that Drake’s sense of style remains intact upon entering his final form.

Oda also got pretty creative with Drake’s hair with this form, turning it into giant orange spikes, which only add to the ferocity of the design, especially alongside that giant set of razor-sharp teeth. Drake stole the show every time he showed up in this form in Wano, even though those scenes may have been brief.

5Jack - Mammoth

Jack Looks Truly Menacing When Activating His Mammoth Form

When the Minks of Zou were forced to go up against Jack, one of Kaido’s right-hand men, it’s easy to understand why they were so terrified by this behemoth when looking at him up close. Jack’s fruit allows him to turn into a mammoth, which not only features two giant trunks but also horns, along with Jack’s golden locks flowing on each side.

It’s remarkable how Oda can still convey theserious and stoic personaof Jack after he becomes an animal, but he achieves it by cleverly hiding his mouth with the trunk and keeping his eyes dim at all times. When putting all this together, it presents jack as a relentless powerhouse with not an inch of emotion overlooking his actions. It would have been nice to have seen even more of Jack’s features added in somehow, such as his iconic mask, but that doesn’t take much away from this fantastic Zoan appearance.

4Marco - Phoenix

The Whitebeard Crew’s Doctor Takes On A Majestic Appearance That Pops With Color

“Mythical"is definitely the suitable term for this Zoan form, as when Marco unleashes his full power, he transforms into a beaming phoenix whose blue flames shine brightly as he soars through the skies. The only part of Marco’s human form that is carried over is his spiked yellow hair taking the form of a flame on his head, alongside the logo marked across his chest being visible at the center.

Outside of that, though, everything else about Marco’s design has completely changed to resemble the legendary bird in all its mystical glory. While Oda tends to try and keep his form designs fairly grounded, at least in the context ofOne Piece, Marco’s fruit in full power looks otherworldly, thanks to the jaw-dropping design.

3Luffy - Nika

Luffy Taps Into Nika And Takes On A Dazzling Appearance Full Of Small Details

While fans had been led to believe that Luffy’s Devil Fruit simply granted him a rubber body and nothing more, it turns out at the end of Wano that there’s a lot more to this fruit’s abilities and history. Luffy’s fruit is a Mythical Zoan fruit, which allows the user to turn into the sun god known only as Nika. As a result, Luffy’s design receives a tremendous upgrade when going into hisGear 5 form.

Luffy’s goofy smiles and facial expressions are still on full display, ensuring fans that it’s still him underneath the new look, but the rest of the design looks downright godlike in terms of aesthetic. With Luffy’s hair turning into large clouds and a large bright puffy symbol floating around him, Luffy manages to look both heroic and inspirational but also terrifying, given how omnipotent he looks in this form.

2Rob Lucci - Leopard

Cool, Stylish, And Incredibly Memorable, Lucci’s Leopard Design Is A Real Standout Among The Zoans

Though Lucci’s entire body turns into that of a bulked-up leopard when he activates his fruit, the stern look can always be seen on his face, allowing him to look down on his enemies while towering over them physically. Having a humanoid leopard with a six-pack is one of Oda’s more outlandish designs, but Lucci still manages to look threatening and badass rather than ever coming across as silly.

This was one of the first ever Zoans Luffy and the Straw Hats came up against in the story, and it’s fair to say he certainly made an impression on the naive pirates. His intimidating appearance is a real joy to watch in action, especially with the recent anime seasons, which have been going intooverdrive with the animationany time Lucci decides to transform.

1Kaido - Azure Dragon

Kaido’s Unparalleled Strength In His Zoan Form Is Paired With A Jaw-Dropping Appearance

It’s common knowledge across theOne Pieceworld that Kaido is one of the strongest pirates on the planet, and while his gigantic regular form already conveys his unrivaled power and strength pretty well, it has nothing on his downright mesmerizing Zoan dragon form. With light blue scales covering much of his body, giant horns resting above his head, and a flowing mustache that is often too big to fit on screen, Kaido looks truly epic when he decides to take to the skies with his Azure Dragon transformation.

When it was mentioned earlier in the story that Kaido is a beast who dominates land, sea, and air, many wondered how on earth such a behemoth could take to the skies. It turns out he enters the body of an ancientChinese dragon god, which, simply put, embarrasses its opponents when it comes to both power and style, becoming one of the most beloved and memorable Zoan designs in the story.
