Summary
The very concept of Sun God Nika is one of the most important pieces of the entireOne Piecestory. Ever since the start of the series, Oda has sprinkled many different hints that allude to this mythological being, but it was only in Wano that it was confirmed that the user of this legendary Devil Fruit was the protagonist of the story, Monkey D. Luffy. With his incredible Gear 5 transformation, Luffy finally manifested the Sun God within himself.
However, the Elbaf arc took this concept and turned it on its head with the reveal of Loki being the user of another legendary Sun God Devil Fruit as well. Whilethis remains an important part of the arc, Chapter 1142 of theOne Piecemanga also seems to allude to the fact that there may potentially be a Moon God Devil Fruit as well. So, in this article, let’s see what this could be and who the most probable user is.
Story Arc
Elbaf
Chapter 1142 was an incredibly important chapter for theOne Piecestory. This was the chapter that gave the first brief glimpse into Loki’s incredible strength as well as thepossible power of St. Shepherd Sommers. While there’s no confirmation yet that this is actually his Devil Fruit power, it’s highly likely that it is, which makes Sommers perhaps the greatest threat that is currently on Elbaf.
His ability seems to manifest the greatest fears of whoever his targets are, which was seen in Chapter 1142, where the greatest fears of the children of Elbaf formed giant monsters that dwarfed even the Giants. One of these was a monstrous Sun God that some fans think is the true form of Loki’s currently unknown God Fruit power, which puts him at direct odds with Luffy as the version of Nika whom the Giants believe to be a destroyer. This creates an incredible dichotomy between the two versions of Nika.
However, another possibility is that this nightmare isn’t a Sun God at all. Maybe this isthe opposite version of Nikawhom the giants believe to be so, but, in actuality, may be a Moon God. This could track, because Nika is known around the world as a liberator who goes around spreading freedom and laughter, but Elbaf is the only country where another legend regarding him exists that claims he is a destroyer. Since information about the Void Century and the world before is incredibly scarce, this knowledge may have been corrupted over the years.
The user of the Moon God fruit could represent the exact inverse values and traits that Nika does but is close enough for them to be considered similar. For example, where Nika seeks to spread freedom and liberation to everyone, the Moon God would likely have a power that seeks to gather and control as much power for themselves as possible, setting the stage for being the ultimate villain at the end.
They called him ‘Sun God Nika’. It was said he would bring laughter to their lips and free them from their suffering.
Of course, there currently seems to be a trend between Luffy and Loki about the truth of the Sun God fruit, where Luffy embodies the liberation aspect of it whileLoki seems to embody the destruction partof the legend. However, the concept of the Moon God fruit can still work here, since the aforementioned nature of the Moon God can still allow for there to be such a dichotomy of the two Sun God fruits.
The Moon God would essentially be the antithesis of Nika, going around the world to conquer and subjugate as many different people as they come across. They would want as much power and control over the world as possible, so it would seem that whoever has this fruit would likely have ambitions similar to this, which can be said for many characters that have been introduced in the story so far. However, there are three prime examples who fall into this trope far better than anyone else.
Who Could The Moon God Be?
The One’s Who Embody This Trope The Best
Of all the characters introduced in the series, there are three whose ambitions would fall perfectly in line with what the Moon God could represent. The first of these is Rocks D. Xebec, who fans know the least about, though it is known that he desired to be the king of the world. A far better example is Imu, who has kept the world under their heelssince the Void Centuryand is being built up as the big bad of the entireOne Piecestory, representing all the tropes well enough.
However, the most likely example of who the Moon God could be is Blackbeard, since his story is intertwined with Luffy’s, and he is the exact opposite of the Straw Hat in just about every way. Currently, very little is truly known about Blackbeard’s story, particularly his Devil Fruit, which gives him unmatched power, so it’s entirely possible that his true Devil Fruit is a Mythical Zoan Moon God fruit, which follows the trend of his Devil Fruit powers as well.
