Summary

The God’s Knights inOne Pieceare one of the newest enemies threatening both the adventure of the Straw Hats and the lives of the Giants on Elbaf. Although the characters have been mentioned for some time, the recent chapters of Elbaf have finally fleshed out each character a bit more, giving them unique personalities, depth, and most importantly, mysterious abilities. Between Shamrock’s Cerberus sword inOne Pieceand Gunko’s Arrow Devil Fruit, these opponents may be a lot for even the Straw Hats to handle.

However, as is the case with many villains inOne Piece, Oda likes to add vulnerabilities to his antagonists, helping to make them into more complete characters. Although at first, especially with the way characters like Shamrock carry themselves, it may seem like these characters are flawless in every way, as the audience spends more time with them, they begin to realize these characters are far from perfect. This includes in the most recent chapter when it was revealed that Gunko, one of the God’s Knights, actually has a fear; One Piece’sSun God Nika.

One Piece Chapter 1142 Introduces A Fear-Based Devil Fruit

This Leads To Gunko Sharing Her Biggest Fear

Recently, inOne PieceChapter 1142, after only a few chapters of waiting, the God’s Knights started acting out their plan to kidnap the giant children of Elbaf. To do this, the God’s Knights, without revealing the full extent and true nature of their abilities, have managed to lure most of the children away from the adults that were once protecting them. To do this, through their mysterious abilities, the God’s Knights ofOne Piecewere able to put all the children to sleep and manifest their greatest fears in the form of monsters.

Ain’t that right, Gunko? What scares you the most? - Sommers to Gunko

While the adults, like Saul, are busy dealing with the monsters, one of Gunko’s arrows is shown leading the sleepwalking children away from safety. As the children are making their way away from the Walrus School, the God’s Knight Sommersasks Gunko what she fears the most, most likely prompted by the fear-based ability the group just used. To his surprise, she simply answers, “Nika” leading directly to the end of the chapter.

Nika Seems Like An Odd Figure To Fear

The Sun God Could Threaten The Traditions Of The World Government

Although it may seem like an odd thing to fear, especially with how joyful Nika has been portrayed in the past, when it comes to the God’s Knights, it would be reasonable to fear Nika. Firstly, with multiple interpretations of Nika, especially with one being a force of destruction, it’s reasonable that Nika may be threatening a group of people looking to protect the long-held tradition of the Celestial Dragons. In a way, the God’s Knights represent tradition, while also attempting to preserve the order of the current world they live in, no matter how amoral it is.

For a group that represents tradition and order, even going beyond the destructive ideas behind Nika, the figure could still be a fearful topic for any Celestial Dragon. Mainly, he represents the idea of freedom, which contradicts the idea of order thatOne Piece’sWorld Governmenthas spent so many years establishing. For the World Government, and in turn, the God’s Knights, all interpretations of Nika directly contradict the current world order.

She May Have Been Brainwashed By World Government Propaganda

However, for an individual to fear Nika, like Gunko, there generally needs to be a more personal reason behind their fear. Although little is known about Gunko’s backstory, it can be assumed that Gunko may have had a negative experience with Nika in the past, or was even potentially brainwashed by World Government propaganda. At the same time, potentially, forthe God’s Knight Gunko, Nika represents a force that could change the world, leading to much more uncertain times. This uncertainty is most likely enough to make anyone fearful of what Luffy might do with the Nika Fruit.

Nika. - Gunk to Sommers, causing him to react in shock

Still, fans will have to wait forthe future ofOne Pieceto learn more about Gunko and her fear of Nika. However, it is reasonable that she may fear the change to the status quo that Nika represents. Although many view Luffy’s quest for freedom as a positive change, for those in power inOne Piece, this must be their worst nightmare.
