Summary

Usopp has always been an interesting part of the Straw Hat Crew inOne Piece. Among incredible fighters, world-changing pirates, and mystical creatures, oftentimes, besides Nami, Usopp feels like the most relatable and human member of the crew, giving fans someone to connect with. Though Usopp does have a fairly powerful lineage, especially from his father’s side, the cowardly sniper is arguably one of the few relatively “normal” members of the Straw Hats inOne Piece.

Still, Usopp’s normality hasn’t stopped fans from searching for a deeper meaning behind the character. This has led some fans to theorize that Usopp and his ancestors may not be as normal as fans expected, even going beyond his father’s incredible sniping ability. In fact, some fans believe thatOne Piece’sGod Usoppmay be a distant relative of the fairies of Dressrosa, making him not just a human, but also part Tontatta.

Usopp’s ill mother, Banchina, a woman with a long nose much like his own

Usopp And His Mother Have A Distinct Facial Feature

Both have A Fairly Prominent Nose

InOne Piece, not much of Usopp’s family is known outside his direct parents. His father, as many fans are well aware, is the incredible sniper Yasopp, one of the Senior Officers of the Red Hair Pirate, and alegendary figure in theOne Pieceworld. His mother, who was abandoned by Yasopp when he left to sail the seas with Shanks, was a simple person from Syrup Village, who passed away when Usopp was still a child.

However, as some fans have noticed, Usopp’s iconic nose comes from his mother’s side of the family, rather than fromhis father inOne Piece, Yasopp. Looking specifically at his mother, her nose, while not as long or pronounced as Usopp’s, was still fairly large and came to a strange point. While this may seem like an insignificant detail, there is another group of characters inOne Piecethat shares a similar facial feature.

Banchina’s Nose Looks Almost The Same As The Tontatta

The Tontatta, who are the expert gardeners and guardian spirits of Dressrosa, despite being incredibly small, also share a nose that looks exactly like Usopp’s mother, Banchina’s; smaller than Usopp’s and coming to a point. Due to this, some fans have concluded that Usopp’s mother may be the descendent ofthe Tontatta’s ofOne Piece, many generations down the line. Although this seems unlikely, this isn’t the first time that a human and Tontatta hybrid has been a part of the series, with Big Mom having a Tontatta husband and a half-human, half-Tontatta child.

Additionally, Usopp had an instant close relationship with the Tontatta after first meeting them duringthe Dressrosa Arc ofOne Piece, with the Tontatta quickly referring to him as a hero. This fast bond between Usopp and the Tontattas may be due to Usopp’s heritage belonging to their group. Plus, much like the Tontattas, Usopp has a natural affinity for gardening, utilizing his skills in botany for many unique purposes since his post-time skip training.

There Have Been Human Tontatta Hybrids Before

Usopp May Be A Very Distant Relative To Them

At the same time, however, the former Emperor ofOne Piece,Big Mom’s, Tontatta child is incredibly small despite being half-human, and Usopp and his mother are still normal size. Despite this, if Usopp’s ancestors were to mostly consist of humans, with only one Tontatta ancestor, it would make sense that he would be closer to a normal human, with only small features of the Tontatta remaining. Even compared to his mother, Usopp looks less like a Tontatta, showing that he may be an even more distant relative.

Grow up to be a brave man like your father… - Banchina

Still, even being a little bit related to the Tontattas inOne Piecemay provide an interesting new direction for Usopp. While he idolizesthe giants of Elbaf, potentially, if he were to actually belong to the smallest group of people inOne Piece, it may add a nice underdog progression to his story. If Usopp is part Tontatta inOne Piece, seeing Usopp earn the respect of the giants would feel all the sweeter.
