Summary
A skilledPokemonfan artist recently shared an incredible piece of artwork that reimagines Mimikyu as a Gen 1 creature. The overall aesthetics ofPokemonhave changed over the years, and this amazing design showcases how a popular critter that appeared decades after the start of the franchise would look like if it was introduced to the franchise’s roster in the 90s.
Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy-type creature originally introduced in theseventh generation ofPokemongames. This bizarre monster stands apart from other Pokemon because it looks like a creature wearing a Pichu disguise, which made its design greatly popular with the fanbase. In the games, Mimikyu has two forms: the “Disguised” one, in which the creature appears normally, and the “Busted” form, which can be seen after the monster is attacked during a battle and looks crooked.
Now, a fan named octoberoclock has shared their latest creation, a Mimikyu inspired by the design philosophies of Gen 1. The fan shared two artworks on r/pokemon: one depicting a normal Mimikyu but resembling the style in which Gen 1 creatures were presented, and the other giving a completely new appearance to the creature. In this new form, the Mimikyu seems to be wearing a Pikachu outfit that looks like a huge yellow blanket. Also, instead of having a tail, the Pokemon has one huge claw, and its new eyes were inspired by Wobbuffet’s. The creation was praised by the community, quickly earning over 3,400 upvotes.
Pokemon Fan’s Mimikyu Design Inspired by Gen 1
This is not the first unusual take on Mimikyu made by aPokemonfan. Last year, one fan designed afusion of Mimikyu and Scizor. In this new form, the creature appears to be wearing a badly made Scizor costume that seems to be made out of foam and has puppets as hands.
Before that, the same artist also devised anincredible fusion of Mimikyu and Togepi. In this artwork, Topegi’s egg was cracked and a black creature with huge, sharp claws was seen emerging from the shell.
A third fan decided to come up with ahuman form for Mimikyu. In this case, the fan artist reimagined the critter as a young human girl with a yellow dress and a Mimikyu mask, which looked adorable while stayed true to the spirit of the popular Ghost/Fairy-type monster. Hopefully, other fans will continue to come up with curious ways to reimagine Mimikyu, delighting the fanbase with the high quality of their work.
