Niantic has announced the details of the upcoming April Fools' Day event inPokemon GO, which will only last for one day on Jul 15, 2025. Continuing its tradition of 24-hour events for April Fools, this year,Pokemon GOis introducing a new kind of in-game encounter that will help trainers complete their Pokedex.

Pokemon GOstarted celebrating April Fools' Day even before its official launch in 2016. For the 2014 holiday, Google Maps released a video teasing that players would soon be able to catch Pokemon roaming around their neighborhoods in a mode calledPokemon Challenge. Two years later,Pokemon GOmade that April Fools' joke into a permanent game, in which trainers across the world can catch Pokemon anywhere. Since then,Pokemon GOhas celebrated April Fools' Day with various in-game events. For instance, in 2018, players were greeted with 8-bit graphics as a nostalgic nod to classic gaming and the first entries in thePokemonseries.Pokemon GO’s event for April Fools 2024turned any throw better than “nice” into an “excellent” one, giving trainers a better chance to catch wild creatures.

For April Fools 2025,Pokemon GOwill feature a new kind of encounter. This year’s event introduces Poke Balls that will appear on the map, which lead to random encounters with some familiar creatures. When clicking on a Poke Ball, trainers will get a chance to catch Voltorb and Electrode in both their normal and Hisuian forms, Foongus, Amoonguss, or the Galarian form of Stunfisk, which features a nose that looks like a Poke Ball. Lucky trainers can even catch theShiny version of these Pokemon. On top of helping to complete their Pokedex, trainers will receive free Poke Balls during these encounters.Pokemon GO’s April Fools event is set to last for one day only on April 1st, running from 00:00 to 23:59 local time.​

Pokemon GO’s 2025 April Fools Event Detailed

Also launching on April 1 isPokemon GO’s April 2025 Power Up Ticket. This ticket, available in the in-game shop for $4.99 until April 11 at 8:00 pm local time, grants trainers various event bonuses and Timed Research tasks. Among the bonuses from this Power Up Ticket are extra Candy XL in Raid and Gym Battles, as well as triple XP for first catches and first PokeStop spins of the day.

Additionally, Niantic has announced the debut of Gossifleur and its evolution, Eldegoss, during theSpring into SpringPokemon GOevent, which begins on April 9. This event will also feature increased shiny odds for Remoraid and Fletchling, half hatch distance for eggs, and additional chances to encounter Marill, Hisuian Growlithe, and Alolan Exeggutor, among other creatures.
