Summary
Pokemon GOplayers have shared their frustration over a research task unlocked during the recent Tour: Unova event, claiming it limits free-to-play fans. The event featured the long-awaited debut of Black Kyurem and White Kyurem inPokemon GO.
On March 1 and 2,Pokemon GOheld thePokemon GO Tour: Unovaevent, the game’s last major event before its Dual Destiny season ends. During the tour, players were able to participate in raids to catch Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem. The event also unlocked a new research task called “It’s Not Over Yet,” which set players up to fuse their Pokemon into Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. However, some Pokemon GO players have criticized how developers have handled this research task, arguing that it’s not too free-to-play-friendly.
User Apollo0624 shared aReddit postcommenting on how many players might never complete the “It’s Not Over Yet” research task. The problem, as they explained, is that the missions are too difficult to beat without investing money. One of the research task’s steps requires players to fuse Kyurem. To achieve this, players must have at least 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy or 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy to obtain Black Kyurem or White Kyurem, respectively. This amount of energy requireswinning at least 10 Kyurem raidsper fusion. However, unlike in previous raid events, the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova did not give players extra free raid passes, which meant fans would have to buy several premium raid passes. For this reason, Apollo0624 called out how this research task leans more toward a pay-to-play format.
Pokemon GO Players Disapprove of Recent Tour: Unova Research Task
Apollo0624 also argued that the only alternative to paying would be to spend hours hosting Campfire raids, which can be unfair for free-to-play fans. The post, which has gathered over 5.3K upvotes, prompted other players to agree with the original poster, and some even compared the new research task to the Zygarde quest from 2023, which many players haven’t managed to complete either. The Pokemon GO Tour: Unova event is now over, so players will have to wait for another opportunity to earn the energy needed for Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. This isn’t the first time thatPokemon GOplayers have shared concerns about developers' handling of monetization options. Many fans are worried thatScopely might acquirePokemon GOand turn the game into a pay-to-win title, but the deal has not been confirmed yet.
Pokemon GOwill soon launch its Might and Mastery season, which will debut more Dynamax Legendaries and Gigantamax Machamp.Pokemon GOis also debuting Kubfuand shiny Charcadet in its upcoming Powerful Potential event, scheduled for March 5.
