Summary

A key reveal during the first teaser for the game, the return of Mega Evolutions inPokemon Legends: Z-Ais one of the most exciting features for this addition to theLegendsseries. While several Mega Evolved Pokemon were shownduring thePokemonDay 2025 trailer, many eagle-eyed viewers noticed several other confirmed Pokemon with Mega forms.

As it’s certainly probable that new Mega forms will be added inZ-A, the presence of plenty of the now-classic Megas is always a welcome sight, especially since it’s also possible that not all Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution will return. From the initial teaser, the official website, and thePokemonDay 2025 trailer, there are 18 Pokemon with Mega Evolutions confirmed so far.

Pokemon Legends Z-A ZA Mega Charizard Y

18Charizard

Spoiled For Choice

One of the most well-known Mega Pokemon, both forms of Charizard have been revealed forLegends: Z-A,with the X and Y forms shown off clearly. While the nature of abilities inZ-Aisn’t fully known, the other main mechanical difference between these two Charizards includes adding the Dragon type as a replacement for the Flying type in X, finally making Charizard a “real” dragon.

17Pidgeot

Certainly A Mega

One of the lesser-known Mega Pokemon, Mega Pidgeot definitely has the appearance of a strong and powerful regional bird, but not quite the same firepower as other confirmed Megas. For fans of Pokemon from Generation 1, the inclusion of Mega Pidgeot is always nice to see.

16Kangaskhan

The Deadliest Duo

Perhaps one of the most powerful non-Legendary Mega Pokemon, Mega-Evolved Kangaskhan is a frightening powerhouse despite the cutesy nature of this mother-child duo. With an ability that lets all moves hit twice, though with reduced damage on the second hit, the practical application of this immense power becomes even more clear with access tomoves like Fake Out and Power-Up Punch. Should abilities be present inZ-A, Mega Kangaskhan will easily top the list.

15Pinsir

Frightening Evolution

A visually scary Mega, Mega Pinsir offers one of the strongest Bug-type attackers around. Although this is not one of the strongest types to be, it does count for something. With a fascinating ability in Aerilate, Mega Pinsir can turn Normal-type moves into STAB Flying-type moves, giving it an extra punch over other Bug-type Pokemon.

14Gyarados

Still Not A Dragon

Most notably used by the main villain inPokemon X & Y, Mega Gyarados leans into the often evil nature of the Pokemon by swapping the Flying type for Dark, further preventing a true dragon Gyarados. While the original inspiration of Gyarados will remain the closest thing to Gyarados having a Dragon sub-typing, the addition of Gyarados in Lumiose City’s waterways will add a touch of terror to surfing the sewers.

13Aerodactyl

Prehistoric Terror

The only fossil Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution so far, Mega Aerodactyl leans into the caveman and prehistoric appearance with plenty of jet-black rocks jutting out of its body. With a mild demonic flair thanks to a faux-goatee and horns formed of rock, Aerodactyl’s physical moves hit even harder with the Tough Claws ability.

12Ampharos

Luscious Mane

Easily the Mega Evolution with the best hair, Mega Ampharos adds a touch of the Dragon type to its sheep-like design. In addition to the incredible locks, Mega Ampharos' immense special attack stat is sure to destroy any susceptible foe in its path.

11Steelix

Defensive Monster

A defensive behemoth, Mega Steelix may not offer immediate attack power, but for players looking for something that can endure battles without much issue, this massive Mega is the way to go. Confirmed by the presence of Onix, Mega Steelix may be a slightly annoying Mega to obtain, depending on how trade evolutions work inLegends: Z-A.

10Heracross

Mighty Beetle

The counterpart to Mega Pinsir, Mega Heracross is a slightly more impressive Mega Bug type, thanks to getting an incredible attack stat boost and powerful new ability. Given the presence of Pinsir, the addition of Heracross was practically guaranteed, given how the two form a cross-Generation pair.

9Houndoom

Family-Friendly Hellhound

Taking the devilish design of Houndoom to its peak, Mega Houndoom could be a powerful Fire-type option forPokemon Legends: Z-Aplayers if abilities are in play. With the ability Solar Power and access to the move Sunny Day, Houndoom may require a touch more setup than Mega Charizard Y to get going, but the power boost isn’t anything to ignore.
