Based on the latest leaks circulating on social media, it seemsPokemon Legends: Z-Amight finally right a decade-old wrong by introducing an all-new Mega Evolution for one half of a particular Pokemon evolutionary duo. Ever since Mega Evolution was revealed to be making a comeback inPokemonLegends: Z-A, speculation has run rampant about which Pokemon, if any, would receive new evolved forms. However, from the alleged list confirming which Pokemon will receive new Mega Evolutions, one specific Pokemon has stood out as a long-overdue candidate for an evolved form.

Out of the numerous Mega Evolutions introduced betweenPokemon XandYandPokemon Omega RubyandAlpha Sapphire, Game Freak seems to have maintained a rough balance with these new forms, such as ensuring eachstarter Pokemon receives a Mega Evolutionwithin a trio. This appears to include potential Pokemon counterparts and duos, like Gardevoir and Gallade or Scizor and Steelix, even if these new Mega Evolutions are added in later games. But among the few would-be Mega Evolution duos that have been left one-sided since the mechanic was phased out,Legends: Z-Aseems to be taking the opportunity to fill in these remaining gaps.

Froslass after evolving in Montenevera

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Might Be Introducing Mega Froslass At Long Last

Though not initially added inXandYwhen the Mega Evolution mechanic first debuted, Glalie was among the second wave of Pokemon to receive Mega Evolved forms with the release ofOmega RubyandAlphaSapphirein 2014. However, similar to Gardevoir and Gallade, Glalie was one of two evolutions for the Snorunt line, with the female-only Froslass introduced in 2007’sPokemon DiamondandPearl. Yet unlike the Ralts line, which received Mega Evolutions for both its final stages,Pokemon’s Gen 6 games seemingly cut a Mega Evolutionfor Froslass for unknown reasons.

However, should the leaked list prove to be true, thenLegends: Z-A’s Mega Evolutions may pay tributeto Froslass over a decade later. Out of twenty-seven alleged Pokemon who will receive Mega Evolutions (ranging from Gen 1 to Gen 8), Froslass appears to be the only candidate from Gen 4’sDiamondandPearlgames. How Froslass’s design, typing, abilities, and more might potentially change after Mega Evolving will remain to be seen if confirmed, but it could be a good sign that the Snorunt line will at least finally be “complete.”

The Evidence For Pokemon Legends: Z-A Introducing Mega Froslass

While these rumors should be treated skeptically, the fact thatLegends: Z-A’s leaked Mega Evolutions listcame from the typically credible Centro Leaks and Froslass is the only Ice-type out of the listed twenty-seven Pokemon could bode well for Mega Froslass. Moreover,Pokemon Legends: Arceuspaid homage to Froslass’s Pokedex entries and yokai folklore inspiration via the side quest “Traces Of A Lost Village.” As a continuation of thePokemon Legendsseries,Legends: Z-Acould be making its own tribute to both its predecessor and Froslass by capitalizing on the return of Mega Evolutions and the missing link in the Snorunt line.

The Evidence Against Pokemon Legends: Z-A Introducing Mega Froslass

Despite this, while Froslass receiving a Mega Evolution would resolve a longstanding imbalance between it and its counterpart, Glalie, the leaked list hasn’t included other one-sided Pokemon duos also in need of new evolved forms. For example, even though both evolved from Slowpoke and received regional forms inPokemon SwordandShield’s DLC, only Slowbro has a Mega Evolution while Slowking is absent fromLegends: Z-A’s leaked list. This could mean thatLegends: Z-Ahas limited its new Mega Evolutionsor that the leaked list isn’t completely accurate, ultimately calling into question whether Mega Froslass will be added or not.
