ThePokemon TCGDestined Rivals expansion, which will be released on May 30, has been officially announced. With over 240 cards, the expansion marks the return of the Trainer’s Pokemon mechanic, a card variant that features atrainer’s Pokemonin its name. The expansion will have 85 cards of this type, including more than 45 being Team Rocket’s Pokemon. Destined Rivals will have more than 15 Pokemon ex, more than 20 Trainer cards, and more than 45 Pokemon and Trainer cards with special illustrations. Also included are six hyper-rare gold-etched cards and 11 special rare illustrations.

While Team Rocket will be the highlight of Destined Rivals, the organization led by Giovanni will share space with other names familiar to fans. The new expansion will also feature cards Misty and Psyduck, Ethan’s Typhlosion, ex variants of Steven and Metagross,Cynthia and Garchomp, Grimmsnarl and Marnie, Ethan and Ho-Oh, and Arwen and Mabosstiff. Players can purchase the expansion in different formats, including a Booster Box with 36 packs and an Elite Trainer Box. The latter will come with a promotional card of Team Rocket’s Wobbuffet, referencing one of the most popular members of Jessie and James' team. The pre-release of the set will take place from May 17 to 25, and,according to Poke Beach, it will feature cards of Team Rocket’s Tyranitar and Mimikyu, Misty’s Gyarados, and Ethan’s Typhlosion.
After the release of Destined Rivals, anewPokemon TCGexpansionis expected to drop in July. Information suggests that the set will be based on Unova’s pocket monsters, and rumors say it won’t have Trainer’s Pokemon cards. An expansion focusing on Mega Evolutions is expected for August or September, including Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir ex cards.
