With each new expansion,Pokemon TCG Pocketcontinues to expand the types of cards it offers players and has been building a robust catalog for the game’s meta to develop around. The latestPokemon TCG Pocketset, Triumphant Light, goes out of its way to even introduce new mechanics like Link Abilities that allow some cards to receive benefits when a card like Arceus is in play. Despite the significant influx of new cards over the past few sets, onePokemon TCG Pockettype remains a clear favorite.

The recent release of Space-Time Smackdown andTriumphant Light sets forPokemon TCG Pocketdid a lot to bring some of the game’s underrepresented types up to snuff. Types like Darkness and Metal gained some impressive tools in the form of cards like Darkrai EX and Dialga EX, respectively, in Space-Time Smackdown, while Triumphant Light continued the trend with cards like Crobat and Probopass EX. However, these card types were in dire need of some attention after being underwhelming in the Genetic Apex set, but the Water type has been and continues to be the recipient of some ofPokemon TCG Pocket’s best cards.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Keeps Showering Water Types with Love

Water Types Have Been Overpowered in TCG Pocket From the Get-Go

SincePokemon TCG Pocket’s release late last year, the Water-type has consistently held a place within the game’s meta. Early meta powerhouses likeBlastoise EX, Starmie EX, and Articuno EX made a splash as dominant forces within the Genetic Apex set. Even after the release of three new sets in the months followingPokemon TCG Pocket’s release, the Water-type continues to push the meta with new weapons being added to the type’s kit with every new expansion.

One of the reasons that the Water type emerged as an early contender for the top ofPokemon TCG Pocket’s meta was the existence of theMisty trainer cardthat allowed the type to thrive. Misty helped players quickly get Water-type energy on their cards, as long as players were lucky withPokemon TCG Pocket’s coin flips. With how crucial energy management is to success inPokemon TCG Pocket, having a unique trainer card like Misty gave Water types a serious leg up on the competition that few cards can rival even after the release of subsequent expansions.

Triumphant Light Makes One of the Best Types in the Game Even Better

While sets like Mythical Island and Space-Time Smackdown offered powerful new Water-type cards likeVaporeon and Palkia EX, Triumphant Light has given the type arguably its best new tool since Misty. Irida is another trainer card introduced in Triumphant Light that pairs perfectly with Misty in a Water-type deck. This card heals 40 damage from any of the player’s cards that have a Water-type energy attached to them, helping keep bulky Water-types like Blastoise EX and Palkia EX in top form.

The Water-type also gets to take advantage of Triumphant Light’s new Link Abilities thanks to Abomasnow’s Vigor Link, which reduces the cost of its attacks by one Colorless energy when Arceus or Arceus EX is in play.

Irida is functionally similar to the Erika trainer card from Genetic Apex, which heals 50 damage from one Grass-type, with the difference being that Irida can heal damage from all of a player’s cards with a Water-type energy attached, making its utility far greater than Erika’s. Few other types offer the versatility of Water-type cards inPokemon TCG Pocket, which is largely due to the great set of supporter cards the type has seen introduced with each set. Between the vast number of EX cards the type boasts and the powerful support it receives from trainer cards, it’s clear that the Water type will continue to be a threat in thePokemon TCG Pocketmetafor the foreseeable future.
