TheRed Dead Redemptionfranchise brought players its latest chapter back in 2018 withRDR2, and since then, there has been continued hope for a third entry. Over the years,Red Dead Redemptionhas told a compelling and morally gray tale of the famous Wild West era, and another story centered around this time would be welcome by many. For a lot of gamers,RDR2remains one of the best action adventure titles around, but a follow-up could still bring improvements.

Unfortunately, developer Rockstar has yet to say whether a thirdRed Dead Redemptionchapter is in the cards or not, but hope hasn’t dwindled just yet. Of course, after the incredibly strong reception ofRDR2, a potentialRDR3has high expectations to meet, but one of the biggest upgrades from its predecessor could be found in small features. Rockstar will likely strive to make immersion inRDR3even deeper, and adding an in-game feature like customizable houses could be a fun way to store inventory and further flesh out one’s character.

RDR3 Having a Customizable Hub Space Could Be a Major Leap Forward

Home on the Range

Throughout the course ofRDR2, players come across some fascinating items, though they can pretty much only be sold in exchange for gold or kept in one’s inventory. Getting more gold is usually always a plus, of course, but certain items may be better suited as collectibles. Whether it be the shrunken head found in Lakay or jewelry and cigarette cards, these items could work great as decorative items in a customizable house. Picking and choosing what the protagonist stores in their home may be a strong way to help players feel more connected to the character, too. It’s unclear whoRDR3’s protagonist will be, but if it’s a fresh character, home customization could serve as a way to give them a unique personality that’s illustrated through these collectible items.

Also, if one’s personal inventory is getting too full, but a player doesn’t want to sell off any items, just storing them in one’s home would be the perfect solution. The ability to decorate the walls and exterior of a frontier home might be a great immersion tool, but it can also elevate one ofRDR2’s best features: hunting. The first game features hunting, as well, butRDR2really kicks it up a notch. It would be difficult forRDR3to upgrade the mechanic, but adding the option to trophy hunt could work wonders.

RDR2was nominated for eight Game Awards in 2018, winning four.

Hunting inRDR2can be a real challenge, and being rewarded by mounting a deer or mountain lion on one’s wall could really drive home the ruggedness of living on the western frontier. Customizable housing also opens the door to a larger list of items players can take. Stealing small pieces of furniture or nabbing some paint for one’s walls may be a fun twist on the typical outlaw lifestyle, since it’s not exactly known for homemaking.

After GTA 6, Rockstar Hopefully Has Plans for RDR3

Right now,GTA 6is the title that’s on a lot of gamers' minds. It’s set to be one of the biggest releases in the history of the industry, and after it launches, there’s no clear sign as to what Rockstar is going to do next. It could be a brand-new IP, or it could be a return toRed Dead Redemption. Many are hoping for the latter, but only time will tell.

GTA 6is predicted to make $3 billion in its first year.

Until then,RDR3is simply fertile soil for speculation. There arehigh hopes forRDR3to become a reality in the future, and if that day finally comes, it will be fascinating to see how Rockstar one-ups its celebrated western tale. While it’s not the only improvement that can be made, house customization could add a lot of depth to a hypothetical sequel, letting players decorate a house instead of just building one like inRed Dead 2.
