In a thread on X discussing the potential release of the rumoredGears of Warcollection, journalist Jez Corden claimed he has heard that it won’t feature multiplayer. If true, this will come as bad news to gamers who were hoping for a full revival of the originalGears of Wartrilogy’s multiplayer. When rumors of aGears of Warcollection began to surface, many felt it could be an equivalent toHalo: The Master ChiefCollection, which included full multiplayer features across all its titles. However, according to Corden, this likely won’t be the case, with the focus instead being on theGears of Warcampaigns.
The Rumored Gears of War Collection Could Launch Without Multiplayer
The reason why a multiplayer mode might not be included in a potentialGears of Wartrilogy collection can only be left to speculation. WithGears of War: E-Dayalso set for release in the future, it’s possible that The Coalition would not want to split the player base, although, again, this is only speculation. In a follow-up post, Corden did point out that he believes co-op will be included in theGears of Warcollection. It isn’t clear whether this only refers to campaign co-op, or whetherGears of War’s Horde mode, which was included in the second and third games, will also be part of the collection.
Much of the noise surroundingGears of War: E-Daysuggests it won’t be ready for a 2025 release, with 2026 looking more likely now. Announced back in mid-2024, the prequel title will take players back well before the story of the original game, bringing back original protagonists Marcus and Dom.
