Post the mammoth success of the 2023 action-RPG,Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. Games grew increasingly interested in expanding the video game offerings under theWizarding Worldfranchise. Earlier in March 2025, the leadership at Warner Bros.-Discovery binnedtheHogwarts LegacyDLCas part of “ongoing restructuring” at Avalanche Software, per aBloombergreport. The publisher made the call after it felt that the game’s expansion wasn’t “substantial enough” to merit the “price being considered.” Alongside this, the “Definitive Edition” ofHogwarts Legacy, which would have featured the base game bundled with the rumored DLC, was also scrapped. According to the source, the DLC was being developed in partnership with Rocksteady Studios and would have revived some of the cut content from the base game, including a storyline that revolved around one of its companions. Fortunately, the report also states that the sequel toHogwarts Legacyis in active development at Avalanche Software.

Warner Bros. Games Ditches Plans for Rumored Hogwarts Legacy DLC

The latest move by Warner Bros. Games further adds to some major ways it has been participating in cost-cutting in recent months. In February 2025, the veteran game publishercanceled the highly anticipatedWonder Womantitleand also shuttered three different studios, includingMiddle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’s creator, Monolith Productions. Prior to that, there were multiple reports of layoffs taking place at Rocksteady Studios in the aftermath of the disappointing performance of its live-serviceSuicide Squadgame. The upheaval in the Warner Bros. games division reached all the way up to the top, with the company also understood to be negotiating the exit of its president, David Haddad, for later in 2025.

Although the new report spells bad news forHogwarts Legacy’s post-launch additions, fans may still expect the sequel to avoid facing a similar fate. Warner Bros. Games has previously underscored the importance of the fantasy-themed IP in its future plans, and there is little to suggest that the plannedHogwarts Legacysequelcould be in doubt.
