Gamescom LATAMis gearing up for its 2025 show, and this time, gaming industry legend and former PlayStation exec Shuhei Yoshida will have a major presence there. In addition to presenting a talk session about his experience in the game industry, Shuhei Yoshida will also be receiving an honor while he’s atGamescom LATAM.
Shuhei Yoshida has had a strong presence in the gaming field with his work at Sony, which he joined way back in 1986. He held a number of roles with Sony over the years, not only being one of the original members of the PlayStation project, but eventually becoming President of SIE Worldwide Studios. In 2019, he became the SIE Head of Indies, and five years later,Shuhei Yoshida announced his departure from SIE, which he followed through on in early 2025.
Now, it’s been announced that Gamescom LATAM will feature a keynote session given by Shuhei Yoshida. He will be presenting a talk called “A Lifetime in Games: From PlayStation to the Future of Indies” on May 1, where he will be giving a deep dive into his work from his beginning with Sony in 1986 through the launch of the later PlayStation consoles, as well as his hand in overseeing the development of major PlayStation hits likeUnchartedandThe Last of Us, and his later focus on supporting indie game devs.
Shuhei Yoshida To Receive Award for His Contributions to Gaming
Before he delivers his talk, Shuhei Yoshida will be given a special honor on April 30 for his contributions to gaming over the years. The Gamescom LATAM BIG Festival Awards Ceremony will be presenting Shuhei Yoshida with the Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is not only being presented to acknowledge his work with PlayStation and its game franchises, but for his efforts in givingopportunities to indie game studiosand developers.
Gamescom will be kicking off on April 30, and will run until May 4. Though Gamescom itself has been running since 2009, Gamescom LATAM only got its start in 2024, and was heralded as a success, seeing more than 100,000 visitors during the inaugural year. This year, a number of game developers, publishers, and platforms have announced partnerships with Gamescom LATAM, which includesSteam attending Gamescom LATAM,as well as The Pokemon Company. This year’s show will remain in Brazil, but will relocate to the Anhembi Convention Center, which will be double the size of the original venue. Gamers should be able to look forward to a lot of excitement during the upcoming event, especially if they’re fans of Shuhei Yoshida, PlayStation, or both.
