InSolo Levelingepisode 21, “It was All Worth It,” Sung Jin-Woo finally obtains the rewards from defeating Baran, theMonarch of the White Flames. Apart from getting the purified blood of the demon king and the Demon Hunter title, Jin-Woo also receives the shadow exchange runestone for the first time in the series.

Accordingly, it is ajob-specific skill that allows Jin-Wooto exchange locations with a designated shadow soldier. Once Jin-Woo uses the exclusive skill, he can only activate it again after a three-hour cooldown period since it’s only at level one. In chapter 88 of theSolo Levelingmanhwa, it was confirmed that the skill also doesn’t require mana. In a nutshell, it’s an incredibly useful teleportation ability, especially if Jin-Woo increases its level.

There is no known range restriction to the skill, which means Jin-Woo can travel across the world without the hassle of going to an airport. In other words, Jin-Woo can bypass the need for conventional transportation.
At level one, Jin-Woo’s Shadow Exchange skill also has a cooldown period of three hours before he can use it again. The good thing is that the higher the level Jin-Woo reaches, the shorter the cooldown period of the skill, making Shadow Exchange even more useful and versatile. Imagine how broken the skill would be if it were not bound by a cooldown period—Sung Jin-Woo could go anywhere he wanted to without worrying abouthis family and friendsbeing vulnerable to enemy attacks.

Fortunately, after Sung Jin-Woo receives thefull power of the Shadow Monarch, all the restrictions on his Shadow Exchange skill are removed. He no longer needs a shadow soldier to switch positions, as he’s now able to create shadow portals. What’s more, even the skill’s cooldown is removed, allowing Jin-Woo to instantaneously travel from one place to another.

There are a lot of moments inSolo Levelingwhen Sung Jin-Woo uses Shadow Exchange. The first that comes to mind is duringthe Jeju Island arc, when Jin-Woo suddenly arrives inside the Ant Queen’s nest to protect Cha Hae-In and her fellow S-rank hunters from the Ant King. At the last minute, Jin-Woo trades places with a Shadow Knight secretly hiding in Baek Yoonho’s shadow to turn the tide of the fight.
Another notable moment is when Jin-Woo decides to test his theory about the Shadow Exchange skill. He wants to determine whether he can bring another person with him while using the skill. True enough, Jin-Woo’s theory proves correct, as he was able to bring Cha Hae-In with him from the headquarters of the Ahjin guild to the gym of the Hunter Association just by touching her or keeping her close to him.

Jin-Woo also uses the Shadow Exchange skill when he visits the United States to attend an international conference. After Jin-ho goes missing, Jin-Woo orders his shadow soldiers to look for his possible whereabouts until one of the high orcs finds him being tortured by Hwang Dong-soo and his men. Jin-Woo instantly swaps places with his shadow soldier to save Jin-ho, leading to a fight with theMaster of the Scavenger Guild, Thomas Andre.

It may not have the same appeal asthe Shadow Extraction skill, but it surely allows Jin-Woo to outmaneuver his enemies.
