Summary
Hunters inSolo Levelingoften have to take on daunting missionsthat potentially put their lives on the line. Gates are filled with bloodthirsty monsters that don’t think twice before attacking a human they encounter. But a hunter’s true nightmare is to face a dungeon boss who is not only powerful, but also draws sadistic pleasure from torturing them.
Usually, thehighest-ranked monsters in a Gateare more intelligent than others, and as leaders, they are often the hardest to defeat. Throughout the series, several strong dungeon bosses appear, but these are perhaps the most terrifying and formidable of them all.
7Kargalgan
S-ranked High Orc Shaman
The boss of the Hunters Guild Gate,Kargalgancommanded a huge army of high orcs. He was also quite adept at using magic spells and was able to bully an entire squad of A-rank hunters single-handedly. Kargalgan used to look down on human beings and treated them like insects. In fact, after casting barrier magic and getting the Hunters' Guild’s squad stuck in the dungeon, he invited them to his lair, planning to torture them before taking their lives.
Kargalgan’s sadistic strategy would have been successful had Sung Jinwoo not accompanied the A-rankers as a miner. When the Hunters Guild Gate dungeon boss targeted the raid team leader, Son Kihoon, Jinwoo came to his rescue. Despite being an S-ranked high orc shaman with immense magic powers, Kargalgan struggled to trouble Sung. The battle was one-sided, and Jinwoo added him to his shadow army after defeating him.
6Baran
King of Demons
Baranwas the Monarch of White Flames and a powerful ancient monster who perished eons ago after betraying his ally. As one of the Monarchs, he used to be quite powerful. Sung Jinwoo fought his clone on thefinal floor of Demon Castleand was pushed to try different techniques to emerge victorious.
If it was the real Baran, Jinwoo could have sustained serious injuries. A long time ago, Baran had dared to fight one of the most powerful beings in existence, so fighting Sung would have excited him. His fearless approach to battle made him a dangerous and unpredictable adversary. Kandiaru brilliantly cloned real Baran’s abilities and demeanor, but he was significantly weakened for obvious reasons.
5Baruka
Boss of Red Gate
Barukawas the leader of the Ice Elvesand also the boss of the Red Gate. As an S-ranked Snow Folk-type magic beast, he was incredibly strong, and even Sung Jinwoo, at the time, knew that he was not powerful enough to defeat him in a one-on-one battle.
Like most magic beasts of his rank, Baruka was quite arrogant and appeared to look down on human beings. He was also intelligent and managed to make quite a few insightful conclusions about Jinwoo following a brief conversation. Unfortunately, it was his overconfidence that eventually led to his downfall, and he lost the battle with Sung after misjudging his powers.
4Ant King
Secret Boss of Jeju Island S-rank Gate
Ant Kingwas an S-ranked insect-type magic beast. At some point beforethe Jeju Island raidparty headed to the forsaken island, Ant Queen gave birth to him. Ant King was unlike any other ant on the island, and his innate powers were extraordinary.
Perhaps Ant King’s greatest strength was his ability to evolve exponentially using a power called Gluttony. By devouring any organism, he could not only absorb its skills but also all its knowledge. This facilitated his rapid growth, and just a few days after his birth, he was able to learn the human language, ice magic, healing magic, and size manipulation.
3Kandiaru
Creator of the System
Kandiaru is theboss of the Double Dungeon, where Sung Jinwoo almost lost his life before his second awakening. He is also the architect of the System and created it with a sinister motive, not realizing that it would eventually lead to unforeseen circumstances. Being anS-rank demonic specter-type magic beast, Kandiaru is extremely powerful and intelligent. He also has an insatiable bloodlust for humans and takes sadistic pleasure in torturing them in horrific ways.
2Kamish
The First S-rank Dungeon Boss
Kamishwas the boss of the first S-rank Gatethat ever spawned. He is described as having an intense bloodlust for humans and possessing destructive hubris. Following the dungeon break, he wreaked havoc on the West Coast of America. The government had lured 100 of the best hunters from around the world to bring him down, but Kamish seemed unstoppable.
By the time Kamish was defeated by thecombined efforts of National Level Hunters, he had killed 1,000,000 civilians and about a hundred S-rankers. Even so, many years after his ruthless rampage, no other dungeon break has come anywhere near the destruction unleashed by him. It is not surprising that Kamish is also known as humanity’s greatest calamity.
1Legia
Monarch of the Beginning
Legiawas the King of Giantsand belonged to the ancient race of monsters created by the Absolute Being. He was extremely shrewd and ruthless, with an unquenchable bloodlust for humans.
Interestingly, Legia was captured at some point in the past and kept shackled for thousands of years.When an S-rank Gate spawnedin Tokyo, Jinwoo found out that he was the secret boss of the dungeon. Although he tried to manipulate Sung, he failed miserably.
