TheInfamousseries was one of Sony’s bigger franchises during the PlayStation 3 era. Developed by the team at Sucker Punch Productions,Infamousfound a solid audience on the PlayStation 3 and was a huge success for the developer following its cult-classic trilogySly Cooper. The franchise even received an entry on the PlayStation 4, withInfamous Second Sonlaunching early in the console’s life.

Since that game’s release in 2014, however, theInfamousfranchise has not received a new game. It’s understandable for Sucker Punch at the moment, given that the team has seen a lot of success withGhost of Tsushima, but it’s a shame Sony hasn’t allowed another development team to handle the IP. After all, the PlayStation 5 seems like the perfect home for a new, uniqueInfamousgame.

Infamous Is Practically Begging For A PlayStation 5 Return

The DualSense Would Work Wonders For A New Infamous Game

If Sony were to put outa newInfamousgame on the PlayStation 5, the publisher could take huge advantage of the controller’s DualSense features. While it feels like some development teams outside of Sony’s first-party camp haven’t taken advantage of the controller, it offers some unique features that could benefit the overall gameplay. Namely, the haptic feedback of the controller’s vibration allows players to feel even stronger sensations than previous controllers while the adaptive triggers also offer unique resistance depending on the in-game events.

WithInfamousbeing a game that centers heavily around different superpowers, the DualSense controller could offer different feedbackdepending on the power being used. As certain powers can change the main character’s speed, strength, or elemental usage, the haptic feedback can portray them with different sensations. Furthermore, the adaptive triggers can benefit the combat, as shooting different forms of energy or projectiles can offer a greater sense of resistance depending on how powerful an ability is.

Infamous Deserves Another Chance, Sucker Punch Or Not

A newInfamousgame also wouldn’t have to center around pre-established characters or series lore either.Infamous Second Sonmoved away from the first two games’ protagonist, Cole MacGrath, in favor of the new kid, Delsin Rowe. Given that Sucker Punch was unafraid to go down the standalone sequel route withSecond Son, it’s not out of the question for a new game to explore an entirely new set of characters in a brand-new location.

Understandably, Sucker Punch may not want to handle a newInfamousgame right now becausethe team is busy working onGhost of Yotei, but it’s not like Sucker Punch can’t hand off the property to someone else. After all, the team showed no reservations about handingSly Cooperover to Sanzaru Games for the franchise’s fourth installment,Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. If Sucker Punch doesn’t feel ready to handle the nextInfamousgame, maybe another Sony studio can take over the reins.

If Sony were to put out a newInfamousgame on the PlayStation 5, the publisher could take huge advantage of the controller’s DualSense features.

Even An Infamous Remaster Would Be Nice

Even if a newInfamousgame is not in the cards right now, Sony shouldn’t let the PlayStation 5 go without anything from theInfamousseries. Even something as simple asa remaster or remake of the first twoInfamousgameswould go a long way in showing that Sony still cares about the series. Plus,Infamoushas aged enough that a re-release makes a lot more sense than some of Sony’s other recent remakes and remasters, such asDays GoneandHorizon Zero Dawn.

Over a decade since the lastInfamousgame, it’s a shame to see that this franchise has fallen by the wayside for Sony. It feels like the PlayStation 5 has exciting new features at its disposal for a new game, whether that game is made by Sucker Punch or not. Here’s hoping Sony doesn’t leaveInfamousout to dry and brings the franchise back with guns (or electricity) blazing sooner rather than later.
