Summary
The Boysprequel seriesVought Risingis on its way, and fans look forward to more engaging characters and dark humor. Although fans don’t know every detail just yet,Vought Risingwill starAya Cash and Jensen Ackles as Stormfront/Clara Vought in 1950s New York City dealing with a “murder mystery.“VarietyreporedMarch 2025 that Will Hochman was cast, and it’s exciting to imagine what this world could look like.
The Boysseason 5 is also on its way, although there is no release date just yet. In the meantime, sinceGen Vis such a impressive spinoff, hopes are high forVought Rising. It’s also the perfect time to think about the strongest prequels out there. The Walking DeadprequelFear The Walking Deadstands out among the crowdsince it offers up some key details about the zombie apocalypse that started it all. CouldThe BoysprequelVought Risingtake some inspiration from it?
The Walking Deadseason 1 told a perfect and succinct story with only six episodes, and the prequelFear The Walking Deadfollowed in its footsteps. While the show’s other seasons were longer, with season 2 having 15 episodes, season 18 had 12, which is fairly short when compared to network dramas. The BoysprequelVought Risingneeds to pack a lot of action, story, and character developments into shorter seasons. SinceThe Boyshas so many strong episodes, fans can expect the prequel to be just as dark, impressive, and surprising.
The Boysprequel should alsoinclude fan-favorite characters.Fear The Walking Deadintroduced new characters like Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey) but also featured Morgan Jones (Lennie James), who Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) meets near the beginning ofThe Walking Dead. While it’s great to become invested in new characters with their hopes, goals, and objectives, seeing familiar faces is comforting.Grimes appeared inFear The Walking Deadseason 4, which was exciting. Although fans saw the tough yet kind leader again inthe spinoffThe Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, it was still great seeing him interact with the other characters on the prequel.
Vought Risingis already doing this by telling a new story about Stormfront and Soldier Boy. Viewers already know them and will definitely tune in to see the next phase of their journeys. ButVought Risingalsoneeds to includecameos from stars such asJack Quaid who plays Hughie Campbelland Karl Urban who plays Billy Butcher. The 1950s setting might make it tricky to feature certain characters, but the show can fix that issue by using storytelling devices such as flash-forwards or dreams/nightmares. Or perhaps some ofThe Boysactors could play different characters. Even if they aren’t portraying the heroes and villains that fans know well, viewers would still appreciate seeing them.
Fear The Walking Deadblends the familiar zombie apocalypse story with new details about how this came to bewhile ensuring that new characters are ascompelling and courageous asThe Walking Deadcharacters. It was smart to centerThe Boysprequel around Stormfront and Soldier Boy since they’re so compelling, too. Jensen Ackles is also known for portraying Dean Winchester in 15 seasons ofSupernatural, a character who is very different from Soldier Boy. AlthoughDean famously trashes a hotel roomin one memorable episode, he’s inherently good and much less mysterious than Soldier Boy. In an interview withMen’s Health, Ackles said:
“Soldier Boy certainly lines up in that kind of framework, in that he thinks he’s doing what needs to be done. He thinks he’s walking the right walk, when in actuality, he’s just terribly mistaken. He thinks that he’s the hero, when he’s really horribly broken and is clearly the antagonist.”
What Did The Showrunner Say About The Boys Prequel Vought Rising?
Vought Risingwas announced in July 2024 and executive producer Paul Grellong and showrunner Eric Kripke talked about the series at Comic-Con. According toVariety, they said:
“It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.”
Also in July 2024, Kripke talked aboutVought RisingwithVarietyand said he talked to Amazon aboutwanting to do twoThe Boysspinoffs:Vought RisingandGen V. Amazon saidGen Vcould be the first spinoffand Kripke explained, “they said, ‘Let’s start with “Gen V,”‘ and we’ll see how it goes and then maybe we’ll do ‘Rising.’ It turns out it went OK.” Kripke also describedVought Risingas:
“likeL.A. Confidentialwith superheroes, is just going to be super fun. And Jensen and Aya, they’re superstars. They’re gonna blow the doors off.”
