Summary
Spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2
The Last of Us Season 2is premiering next month, but before all that happens, HBO has revealed the show’s episode one title name, which could mean that a terrible feat is in store for one beloved character sooner rather than later. So far, the show’s new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Jeffrey Wright and Catherine O’Hara also coming in to play Issac and Gail. However,The Last of UsSeason 2 may still hold a few surprises if a recent rumor is to be believed, which indicatesa big star will appear for an unannounced character in episode 6of the highly anticipated series' return.
In a bid to keep the excitement for Season 2 at an all-time high, HBO recently released anew trailer of what viewers can expect to see fromThe Last of UsSeason 2. The trailer certainly illustrated its darker themes and heart-pounding moments from the Naughty Dog sequel, but fans also got to see another important aspect of the game as Season 2 will finally implement airborne spores, which played a huge part throughoutThe Last of Usfranchise. Now, with only weeks to go before fans get to see the aftermath of how Joel and Ellie’s relationship has held up in Jackson after Season One’s emotional ending, the episode one title of Season 2 has been disclosed, and it’s not looking good for Joel.
HBO Reveals The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 1 Title and It Could Be a Grim Spoiler
The next chapter ofJoel and Ellie’s complex relationshipwill get even more difficult as viewers got to see in the show’s most recent trailer that Ellie seemingly found out about Joel’s dark secret he had kept hidden from her. According to showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann,The Last of UsSeason 2 won’t adapt every aspect of the sequel, but it certainly will implement its core structure, which means that the beloved Joel won’t be on our screens for too long. Although fans don’t know for certain when this horrific event will take place at the hands of Abby, HBO’s episode one title reveal might mean that Joel is only in the show’s very first episode.
As shared by @TheLastofUsNews on Twitter/X,HBO’s episode listing for The Last of Us Season 2 reveals that episode one will be called ‘Future Days’ and will run for an hour. Those who have played Naughty Dog’sThe Last of Us Part 2will know that this title is in reference tothe iconic 2013 Pearl Jam song that Joel awkwardly sings for Ellie on his guitarin the opening of the sequel, which has a painfully deep meaning for her, especially the line “If I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself,” which makes her remember Joel after his brutal death so naming episode one ‘Future Days’ could be a pretty clear indication that Joel might bite the bullet straight off the bat.
Of course, the title could also mean that it’s just where fans will see Joel singing the song to Ellie and he doesn’t die, but sincePedro Pascal wrapped up Season 2fairly quickly, his character’s death in the first episode might make sense, but we’ll likely see the lovable rogue throughout Ellie’s flashbacks too. It certainly would be a dagger to the heart to see Joel cut out so early, but since the story arc of Season 2 follows Ellie’s quest for revenge and only includes 7 episodes, it would make sense to get that scene over and done with.
The Last of Usseason two will premiere on April 13 on HBO Max.
