Summary

Not everyone in theOne Pieceuniverse is as loud, brash, and energetic as Monkey D. Luffy. While there are definitely many characters, such as Robin or Zoro, who can come across as a little introverted, there’s also those who would be considered shy due to their lack of confidence, and how easily they get nervous when the going gets tough. Though many of these characters have a good heart, and are always trying to push through this difficult personal trait, it’s still come to be a lovable part of who they are to the fans, at least, for some of them.

If aOne Piececharacter is expected to be a warrior or the leader of a kingdom, being shy may not be very ideal, but with a little help from Luffy, many of these characters eventually learn to come out of their shells and step up when they need to. These are theOne Piececharacters who are well known for their shy and timid characteristics, which have been shown throughout the course of the story.

8Tony Tony Chopper

Even A Single Compliment Will Have Chopper’s Confidence Boosted For Days On End

It can be hard to imagine these days, considering Chopper loves to yap about anything and everything while aboard the Sunny, but he wasn’t all that much of a talker when he first joined the crew. In fact, Chopper felt quite isolated and shy, which makes sense considering he was suddenly leaving his hometown and longtime friend tobecome a pirate, which all happened because of one fateful pit stop.

The longer that he’s been around the Straw Hats, the more his confidence has grown, though he is definitely still the most shy one out of his friends when it comes to talking to strangers. It’s also been shown that even a simple compliment from a stranger will skyrocket Chopper’s confidence; maybe the lovable reindeer needs to take a little more pride in his crucial role as the doctor of the Straw Hats.

7Napoleon

Napoleon Only Acts All Tough When Big Mom Is On His Side

Napoleon is one of Big Mom’s Homies, that is, an object which she has infused with a soul. In Napoleon’s case, he is a hat who sits atop Big Mom’s head, but who can also be turned into a giant sword at a moment’s notice. The Homie talks a very big game during theWhole Cake Island arc, boasting about how he enjoys slicing up his opponents and watching them squirm, but when Big Mom wakes up with amnesia in Wano, Napoleon mysteriously shuts off.

After not saying a word for an entire journey, he begrudgingly reveals that he’s actually very shy, essentially meaning that being around Big Mom gives him a kind of fake self-confidence. It was honestly pretty weird to hear Napoleon admit this considering the way he was acting not long before, but it also makes sense since he technically owes his very existence to Big Mom.

6Pica

Pica’s High-Pitched Voice Has Made Him A Fairly Sensitive Pirate

Upon first glance, it would be hard to believe someone as massive and muscular as Pica could be considered shy, but the one thing that ruins this pirate’s confidence is his voice. As Zoro and Luffy come to find out when facing him in the Dressrosa Arc, Pica has an incredibly high-pitched voice, and when Luffy decides to rudely mock it, Pica starts getting flustered, and even upset.

For much of the arc, he’s shown to be very quiet and reserved, and it must be because of this one characteristic. Pica just goes to show that you can’t always judge a book by its cover, as he easily could have been a loud and bumbling giant and nothing more, but Oda decided to get a little more creative with this Donquixote pirate.

5Killer

Killer Always Tries To Hide His Face And Avoids Speaking If He Can Help It

Though Killer is more than happy to slice and dice anyone who gets in Kid’s way, outside of combat, thisdangerous right-hand manseems pretty shy and lacking in confidence. Killer not only says barely anything throughout the series, despite having such a high rank on his crew, but he also hides his face, at least he did, until Wano. When Killer was forced to consume a SMILE fruit, his mask was also removed in the process.

All Killer could do was laugh due to the effects of the SMILE fruit, and it’s clearly been the most embarrassing moment for him so far. For someone as introverted as Killer who tries to avoid the spotlight at all costs, being made to laugh uncontrollably in front of everyone isn’t something he will be living down any time soon.

4Bepo

Law’s Right-Hand Bear Is Easily Embarrassed And Not Much Of A Talker

Make no mistake, Bepo can still hold his own in a fight thanks to his kung-fu fighting style, but he’s also someone who gets easily embarrassed, which is why he often hides behind Law. Bepo’s shyness is why his underlying power, specificallyhis Sulong form, is so shocking to see in action though, since Bepo’s personality entirely changes once he turns into a ferocious beast.

When he’s his regular polar bear self though, Bepo comes across as pretty quiet and maybe a little lacking in confidence. He even used to apologize when people mentioned the fact that he’s a bear who can talk, which, in the world ofOne Piece, really ought to not be all that shocking.

3Koby

From Shy And Timid Cabin Boy To Confident Marine, Koby Has Come A Very Long Way

Admittedly, Koby is nowhere near as shy in the modern story as he once was, but he does still display some signs of his old characteristics from time to time. Before Koby actually became a Marine though, he was a young boy with barely any confidence who would need to rely on Luffy to get anything done. However, his dream of becoming a Marine eventually led him to Garp, who trained the boy on how to replace his timidness with strength and determination.

Even being a part of theSWORD groupfeeds into Koby’s preference of being separated and closed off from the others, showing that his shyness is still somewhat intact. One thing is for sure though, if he hadn’t decided to go under Garp’s wing when he did, Koby would never have come out of his shell.

2Charlotte Pudding

Pudding Tries To Put On A Facade To Hide Her True Emotions

Just when fans think they are starting to get a good idea of the real Pudding, she suddenly switches up her entire personality, going from a mean and spiteful bride-to-be to a much more quiet and reserved character who is always afraid to say the wrong thing. The truth is, Pudding has confidence issues due to her tragic childhood, which saw her being bullied by the other Big Mom kids because of her Third Eye.

Being used as little more than a tool by Big Mom forreading the Poneglyphsforced Pudding to close herself off from others, which is something she expresses after Snaji and her escape from the wedding ceremony on Whole Cake Island. Even if Pudding says or does something that she’s a little too shy to admit, she can always use her Devil Fruit ability to remove that memory from the other person’s mind, as she does with Sanji.

1Shirahoshi

Shirahoshi Is A Closed-Off Bundle Of Emotions When Luffy First Meets Her

Though Shirahoshi isthe princess of Fishman Island, she doesn’t exactly act like one. By the time Luffy runs into her after the crew embark on Fishman Island, Shirahoshi had been locked in her tower for an entire decade. Needless to say, this ended up making her very paranoid and afraid of anything that she would have been seeing for the very first time, especially if it was a small elastic pirate captain.

Shirahoshi is initially terrified of Luffy, and less than willing to interact with him. After he expressed how wonderful the world is outside the tower though, and beat up Hody Jones, Shirahoshi put her trust in him and started growing in confidence. She would even muster up the courage to attend the Reverie, though it was clear she wasn’t yet fully comfortable approaching people.
