Two Point Feels Built for a Mall Tycoon

Mall Tycoons Have Struggled to Capture Players

When simulation fans think of mall tycoons, they may think back to 2002’s aptly titledMall Tycoon. This business simulation game was developed by Holistic Designs and gave players control over their very own mall. They were in charge of building the mall, ensuring it was filled with shops, and managing every aspect of it to try and build the biggest mall around. While that sounds like a recipe for success, many players found it frustrating and lacking in most aspects. However, it would go on to spawn two sequels, which also struggled to make an impact.

Besides theMall Tycoontrilogy, there have been a couple of other attempts at capturing the feeling of running a mall. 2004 saw the release ofMall of America Tycoon, titles such asKing of RetailandBig Ambitionshave put players in the shoes of an entrepreneur, andProject Highrisefeatured a DLC solely focused on malls in Miami. Outside of that, the best mall experience so far may come in the indie titleAnother Brick in the Mall, which gives players a 2D world to build their dream mall within. While that can make for some fun experiences, these titles seem to be missing something truly captivating and immersive.

Two Point Could Finally Deliver a True Mall Tycoon Experience

One of the biggest reasons that Two Point Studios feels perfect for a mall tycoon is the world that it has created. Its titles havea very distinctSims-like humorto them, complete with funny antics and hilarious announcements that serve as player’s constant companions throughout the game. Plus, players are required to assist a wide variety of people with their needs, much like a shopkeeper would. With a few tweaks, that formula feels like it would fit incredibly well into the mall landscape.

Of course, thecomedic writing and style of theTwo Pointfranchisedoes not mean that the studio will be able to craft a fantastic mall experience. However, the gameplay mechanics that it has refined across these three titles have also been a standout. It may not be the deepest mechanics out there, but its gameplay loop is extremely satisfying, and as of now, it seems to fit whatever business the studio wants to throw at it.

Through the three Two Point titles, Two Point Studios has shown that it may actually be the best one suited to deliver all sorts of business simulators. Already, itbrought back the days ofTheme Hospital, gave players the feeling of running their own college campus, and is now challenging them to design their very own museums. Through these three titles, the studio has refined its craft and built a pretty distinct style that has kept players coming back for more. So, even though there are many routes it could take the concept next, malls should be next on the list.
