A Huge Change Was Made In The Fishman Island Remastered Arc
Portgas D. Ace’s Moment was Removed
The Fishman Island Remaster Arc has been airing for a while as the main anime story went on a hiatus, which has now lasted almost 6 months. This Remaster looked to improve the arc that was animated over a decade ago, both in terms of animation and pacing.
This remastered version has definitely reignited the interest of many fans when it comes to this underrated arc. That said,while the Fishman Island Remasterhas mostly been good, last week’s episode did stir up some controversy.
Indeed, manyOne Piecefans are upset at a huge change that was made. The biggest moment of this arc was definitely when Luffy used his Red Hawk attack against Hody Jones. In the original anime, Ace was also in this shot, as the attack is a tribute to Luffy’s brother, and a showing of how Luffy refuses to lose any more people, especially after training for two years.
The creative decision of incorporating Ace in the anime elevated the manga to a whole new level, and moved the fans to tears. However, the new Remastered version does not feature Ace. This has, of course, displeased many fans, who believe the inclusion of Ace elevates the scene a lot, and makes this a massive emotional hit, especially as, at that point, Ace’s death is still very fresh.

While many fans are upset at this change, this scene does technically make the remastered adaptation more faithful to what happened in the manga. Indeed, when Luffy used his Red Hawk in the manga, Oda didn’t show Ace in the picture.

However, just because something didn’t take place in the manga, doesn’t mean it’s not a good scene.The addition of Ace into the anime was definitely a great decision, and shows how an anime can improve on the source material sometimes. The addition of Ace doesn’t change anything about the story, makes sense, and most definitely elevates the scene.
