In addition to its fivefishing-related side missions,Monster Hunter Wildshas three Trophies / Achievements that are tied to the sport. The first is awarded just for catching a fish while another one can be unlocked by reeling in 30 Whoppers. The last one is called Monster (Squid) Hunter and requires players to catch a Giant Squid.

The Giant Squid in question is known as a Goliath Squid and can be found in the Scarlet Forest area ofMonster Hunter Wilds. It’s big enough to count as a Whopper and so can be caught to complete the Catch of a Lifetime side mission, although players may have to hunt for it separately if they end up reeling in a different type of fish for Kanya.

Where to Find a Giant Squid in Monster Hunter Wilds

Players can find a Goliath Squid inthe Great Lake Shore, which isArea 17 of the Scarlet Forest. They won’t be fishing in the water shown on the map, but rather in the deeper water on the other side of the rock wall. Although they can show up at any point from evening onwards,Goliath Squid are much easier to spot at nighttimedue to their bioluminescent glow. They’re a dark gray color in daylight, although the reflective surface of the water makes it almost impossible to see them, sochanging the time of daycan make a huge difference.

Players can increase the chances of a Goliath Squid appearing by pulling down some of the Loch Ruins with their Hook Slinger. This will trigger a fish gathering, although doing so during the daytime can make it much more difficult to spot the Goliath Squid due to all of the splashing.

How to Catch a Giant Squid in Monster Hunter Wilds

After locating a Giant Squid, players should pull out their rod andequip the Tentacle Jigthat they got at the beginning ofthe Razzle Dazzle side mission. They’ll want toaim the jig just in front of the squid and then jiggle it around a littleuntil it takes a bite. As mentioned above, the Goliath Squid is classed as a Whopper, so players will need tocomplete the extended fishing mini-gamein order to reel it in.

Players can also catch a Giant Squid using the Tuff Joint Bait fromthe Catch of a Lifetime side mission, although the Tentacle Jig is far more consistent.

The key to catching a Goliath Squid is to tire it out by pulling the line in the direction that it’s moving to reduce tension. Whenever it stops moving, players can begin to reel their line in, although they should be ready to stop reeling and pull left or right if the squid starts thrashing again. It doesn’t appear as though Goliath Squids can leap out of the water, but on the off chance that one does, players should yank the line in the direction that it jumps and then quickly pull the right trigger.
