Ever since Kojima began revealing more about the game through its extensive trailers, more of its story, world, and characters have been introduced, and yet it all remains simultaneously cryptic, in classic Kojima fashion. One character at the height of that mystery has been Elle Fanning’s role inDeath Stranding 2, who has only been revealed as a character by the name of “Tomorrow.”
While there are still an immense number of details that are unknown about the role that Tomorrow will play inDeath Stranding 2’s story, it is looking more and more like she could be the game’s most pivotal character. From the looks of things, she has a strong connection to the Beach and toHiggs inDeath Stranding 2, which automatically elevates her importance. Add to that her potential link to one of the first game’s most important characters, and it’s likely fans are looking at someone that plays a crucial role in determining the outcome ofDeath Stranding 2’s story — especially considering how secretive Kojima has remained about her up to this point.
Tomorrow May Be Death Stranding 2’s Most Important Character
There Is a Strong Case Present That Tomorrow Is Lou
One thing that would make Tomorrow one ofDeath Stranding 2’s most important characters (and potentially the single-most important character in the game) is if she is, in fact, Lou. In the firstDeath Stranding, Lou (short for Louisa) is the BB-28 Bridge Baby assigned to Sam Porter Bridges and is one of the most memorable aspects of the game. As players progress throughDeath Stranding’s story, their bond with Lou likely grows at the same rate as Sam’s, as the two share some of the most adorable and heartfelt moments ever seen between two video game characters.
While Lou has been shown to still be a baby (albeit an older one) inDeath Stranding 2, there is still a chance that Tomorrow is Lou. For quite some time now, fans have theorized that Tomorrow and Lou are the same person, and that Tomorrow has somehow aged abnormally or traveled through time. It could be thatDeath Stranding 2’s story takes place across two different time periods, and the Tomorrow shown in the trailers is the future timeline in the game. However, it could also be that Tomorrow’s connection to the Beach, which is made evident in her black tears inDeath Stranding 2’s pre-order trailer, has allowed her to time travel in some way.
The firstDeath Stranding’s tagline was also “Tomorrow is in your hands.” If that was to be taken both figuratively and literally, it would mean that Tomorrow was literally in Sam’s hands on his journey.
If Tomorrow is indeed Lou, this would not only make her an important character toDeath Stranding 2’s overarching narrative, but also to Sam’s personal journey. This would make what appears to be an alliance between her and Higgs hit even harder forSam inDeath Stranding 2— that is, if Higgs still plays an antagonistic role.
Tomorrow’s Name Is Symbolic of the Future
Even ifTomorrow isn’t Lou inDeath Stranding 2, her name is symbolic of the future, meaning she is more than likely connected to the outcome of the world or the game’s story. One theory is that she is the next Extinction Entity, which would mean she plays a pivotal role in triggering extinction-level events on Earth. If Tomorrow is following in those footsteps, she could end up being either humanity’s salvation or its annihilation, making her the most pivotal figure in the sequel. Wherever she ends up, there is enough evidence pointing to Tomorrow’s vital importance toDeath Stranding 2’s story.
