WWE 2K25marks the debut of The Island, a brand-new game mode that features both single-player and multiplayer content. As players engage with that content, they will have opportunities to improve and customize superstars of their own making. That said, not all players will get to experienceWWE 2K25’s The Island firsthand, as it is only available to those who purchase the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S consoles.
As such, PC players, and those who are playing on last-gen consoles, will not get a chance to visitWWE 2K25’s The Island. While this fact was confirmed at the end of January, alongside a bevy of general information about the game, the reason that The Island would skip the PC version was not revealed at that time. Additional information about the decision has since been provided, though, and there is now official word about the mode’s exclusivity to current-gen consoles.
The Reasons That WWE 2K25’s The Island is Not on PC
In aninterview with Wccftech, Lynell Jinks,WWE 2K25’s creative director, was asked about The Island’s absence from the game’s PC release, and he provided a two-part response. In the first part, Jinks indicated that there were concerns about ensuring the quality of the experience across different PCs. Jinks elaborated upon this statement by saying that the game is basically “maxed to the limits,” suggesting that players could have run intoperformance issuesif they attempted to play The Island on lower-end PC hardware.
This is almost certainly the reason that The Island is also not available on last-gen consoles, and Jinks did state that there were concerns about ensuring quality not only on different PCs, but on “all the different SKUs.”
The second part of Jinks’s response indicated that there were concerns abouthackerson PC that could “basically destroy the economy or break the game in ways to where (sic) it ruins the balancing, it ruins the progression.” This is, perhaps, the most compelling reason forThe Island to skipWWE 2K25’s PC version, as players who are legitimately engaging with the mode could easily become disheartened if they frequently encountered other players with hacked cosmetics and ability scores.
The City, agame mode in theNBA 2Kseriesthat has some obvious similarities to The Island, was not initially available to PC players. However,NBA 2K25changed that, and perhaps The Island will also come to PC in futureWWE 2Kentries.
WWE 2K25 is Cheaper on PC
While the absence of The Island from the game’s PC release may be disappointing to some players, there is still a compelling reason to go with this version of the game: it is cheaper. Indeed, theStandard Edition ofWWE 2K25costs $59.99 on PC, while it costs $69.99 on consoles. As such, players who do not have any interest in the game mode may decide to save $10 and go with the PC version.
WWE 2K25 Does Not Allow Cross-Gen Sharing of Community Creations
Before players make that choice, though, there is one additional thing that they should know:Community Creations inWWE 2K25can only be shared between platforms of the same generation. This means that players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One have access to one pool of Community Creations, while players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have access to another. While these two pools may eventually find some level of parity, players may want to consider this limitation when deciding which version of the game to purchase.
To note, this limitation is likely a byproduct of the addition of The Island requiring that a distinction be made between a last-gen version (PS4, Xbox One, and PC) and a current-gen version (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S). Indeed, such a distinction was not necessary in previous entries, which allowed players to freely share their Community Creations across platforms. While some players may feel as though that freedom should not have been sacrificed for The Island, players who fall in love withWWE 2K’s newest game modemay think otherwise.
