Summary

TheXbox Game Passmobile app has officially been shut down, marking the end of its standalone existence. Nearly a year and a half after new downloads of theXbox Game Passapp were halted, Microsoft has finally pulled it offline.

Back in September 2023, Microsoft revealed that it plans to merge its Xbox mobile apps in September 2023, with the goal of consolidating their features into a single platform. This decision entailed phasing out the dedicated Xbox Game Pass app, which allowed users tobrowse the Game Pass library, manage their subscriptions, and even pre-install games remotely. Microsoft confirmed that all of these functionalities would be integrated into the main Xbox mobile app, ensuring that Game Pass members could still access the same features in one convenient place.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

With thefate of the Xbox Game Pass mobile app sealedsince then, Reddit user firewire_9000 recently spotted a farewell message on its iOS store page that simply said “Adios,” since they’re presumably from a Spanish-speaking region. Now that the closure is complete, Xbox players mustrely on the primary Xbox mobile app for all Game Pass-related activities, like catalog browsing, subscription management, and notifications for new game additions. Additionally, Game Pass Ultimate members can still view and claim their exclusive perks within the updated Xbox app.

Some Xbox Users Preferred the Simplicity of the Old Game Pass App

While Microsoft aims to offer mobile users a more centralized experience with this switch-over, it may also be seen as an inconvenience for those who prefer a streamlined, Game Pass-focused app. Some users did complain about having to navigate the broader Xbox app, which includes features unrelated to Game Pass and can therefore feel a bit cluttered. However, other players have adapted well to the new system. The Xbox mobile app continues to support remote installations, which means users can pre-loadupcoming Game Pass titlesdirectly to their consoles, just as they could with the old app.
