Unfortunately forXboxgamers, the platform is revoking access to the version ofAlan Wake Remasteredthat was accidentally given away for free. Every once in a while,Xboxand other digital gaming storefronts accidentally give games away for free. This happens very rarely, but it is an issue that’s popped up on more than one occasion.
Typically when this happens, access to the accidental freebie is revoked pretty quickly. But that wasn’t the case forAlan Wake Remastered. In January,Xbox gamerswere able to play a free trial ofAlan Wake 2. Since this free trial coincided with a special promotion that bundledAlan Wake RemasteredandAlan Wake 2together, the free trial allowed players to claim the full version of the former completely free of charge. Microsoft quickly closed the loophole, but gamers that took advantage of the oversight were able to retain access toAlan Wake Remastered. That is, until now.

The message sent to players explains that they were not supposed to be able to get the game for free, and so access is being revoked. While this is disappointing considering how long gamers were able to keep the game from the day of the glitch, at least there was plenty of time to beat it.TheAlan Wakegames aren’t particularly long, after all.
